Co-écrit par McQueen et Gillian Flynn et basé sur la série télévisée britannique Widows, le film suit quatre femmes de Chicago qui tentent de voler cinq millions de dollars au domicile d'un politicien local en vue de rembourser un chef de la criminalité à qui deux millions de dollars lui ont été volés par leurs maris avant d’être tués dans une tentative de fuite ratée.
La distribution du long-métrage comprend Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki et Cynthia Erivo, mais aussi Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Liam Neeson et Daniel Kaluuya. Distribué par la 20th Century Fox, Les Veuves est présenté en avant-première au Festival international du film de Toronto le 8 septembre 2018, avant de sortir en salles le 8 novembre 2018 au Royaume-Uni et le 16 novembre 2018 aux États-Unis. En France, après une avant-première française à la 9e édition du festival international du film de La Roche-sur-Yon, le film sort le 28 novembre 2018.
Bien que n'ayant pas obtenu de véritable succès commercial (76 millions $ de recettes mondiales pour un budget de 42 millions $), Les Veuves est largement acclamé par la critique, qui a salué la réalisation, le scénario et la performance des acteurs, en particulier ceux de Davis, Debicki et Kaluuya.
Synopsis
Chicago. Alors qu'ils viennent de commettre un braquage chez le criminel Jamal Mannings en lui volant deux millions de dollars, le voleur de renom Henry Rawlins et son équipe sont tués dans une explosion lors d'une confrontation avec la police. La veuve de Rawlins, Veronica, reçoit la visite menaçante de Jamal, qui convoite le poste de conseiller municipal du South Side où il a comme adversaire Jack Mulligan, issu d'une famille de conseillers municipaux. Ayant besoin des deux millions pour financer sa campagne, Jamal contraint Veronica de réunir la somme en un mois. Un jour, elle découvre le carnet d'Henry contenant un plan détaillé d'un braquage pour un butin de cinq millions de dollars. Afin de mener à bien le plan pour rembourser de la dette, Veronica prend contact avec Alice, Linda et Amanda, les trois veuves des complices de son défunt mari pour l'assister. Seuls Alice et Linda viennent au lieu de rendez-vous. Alors qu'elle est chez Amanda pour lui parler, Veronica découvre le flacon d'un parfum qu'elle a offert à Henry et conclut qu'il a une liaison avec Amanda et qu'il est le père du nouveau-né de la jeune femme. Veronica, dévastée, quitte les lieux. Cette dernière charge Alice d'acquérir une fourgonnette achetée lors d'une vente aux enchères et trois pistolets Glock. Linda, quant à elle, doit déchiffrer le plan. Grâce à son amant occasionnel avec qui elle entretient une relation transactionnelle, Alice identifie le projet comme un coffre-fort dans la maison de Jack Mulligan.Actors

Jim Street (Colin Farrell), a former U.S. Navy SEAL and hot-shot cop from the Los Angeles Police Department and his SWAT team are sent to stop a gang of robbers who have taken over a bank. His high-tempered partner and close friend Brian Gamble (Jeremy Renner) disobeys an order to not fire on the bank robbers, and accidentally wounds a hostage in the process. Six months after the incident, the chief of police calls on Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) to help re-organize the SWAT division. Hondo puts together a diverse team, including himself, Street, Christina Sánchez (Michelle Rodriguez), Deacon Kaye (LL Cool J), TJ McCabe (Josh Charles), and Michael Boxer (Brian Van Holt). The team members train together, eventually forging bonds of friendship. As a result, their first mission to subdue an unstable gunman is a success.

After defeating Owen Shaw and his crew and securing amnesty for their past crimes, Dominic "Dom" Toretto, Brian O'Conner, and the rest of their team have returned to the United States to live normal lives again. Brian begins to accustom himself to life as a father, while Dom tries to help Letty Ortiz regain her memories. Meanwhile, Owen's older brother, Deckard Shaw, breaks into the secure hospital the comatose Owen is being held in and swears vengeance against Dom, before breaking into Luke Hobbs' DSS office to extract profiles of Dom's crew. After revealing his identity, Shaw engages Hobbs in a fight, and escapes when he detonates a bomb that severely injures Hobbs. Dom later learns from his sister Mia that she is pregnant again and convinces her to tell Brian. However, a bomb, disguised in a package sent from Tokyo, explodes and destroys the Toretto house just seconds after Han, a member of their team, is killed by Shaw in Tokyo. Dom later visits Hobbs in a hospital, where he learns that Shaw is a rogue special forces assassin seeking to avenge his brother. Dom then travels to Tokyo to claim Han's body, where he meets and races Sean Boswell, a friend of Han's, who gives him personal items found at Han's crash site.

The film opens with Harry Mitchel (Colin Farrell) (convicted of GBH under never-explained circumstances) leaving prison. He is propositioned by his friend and former partner-in-crime, Billy Norton (Ben Chaplin), to live in a nice 'acquired' apartment, but on condition he work for Billy's criminal boss.
