Lucía (Paz Vega), a waitress, is talking on the phone with her depressed writer boyfriend Lorenzo (Tristán Ulloa) after they had a nasty argument, where-after she walked out. Since he's been in a 'funk' for a while, she's worried, and goes home to console him. Finding an empty apartment, Lucía is frantic. She receives a phone call from the police while finding a suicide note, and is so afraid of bad news that she hangs up, assuming the worst. They call back, but she ignores the ringing phone, packs a bag, and flees. Looking for a new beginning, Lucía travels to the mysterious Balearic Islands that Lorenzo had always talked of, but had recently been very negative about.
Formerly successful television producer Joachim Zand returns from America to his native France, where he previously has left everything behind, including friends, enemies and his own children. In his company is a burlesque striptease troupe whom he has promised a grand performance in Paris.

Two college students, Keith and AJ, want to hire a stripper to buy their way into a campus fraternity. They borrow a Cadillac from lonely rich student Duncan, who insists on coming with them to scope out strip clubs in a nearby city. The three boys find themselves at a club in a shady part of town, and after being impressed by a surreally artistic stripper, Queen Katrina, AJ visits her dressing room to convince her to come strip for their college party. Katrina seduces AJ, then pins him down -- killing him with a bite to the neck.

Très vite, scénario et réalité ne font plus qu'un, ce que le style de la réalisation exprime par des allers et retours entre séquences, les unes en reprenant d'autres avec des variantes de l'action qui expriment les version variables imaginées par l'auteur du scénario, Alain Robbe-Grillet, et cela dans le décor même du train.
Pour cacher à sa femme Gisèle son infidélité de la nuit, Pierre fait appel à un détective privé particulièrement louche pour lui concocter un alibi. Un certain Robert Crémieux lui est ainsi présenté qui se fera passer auprès de Gisèle comme un ami d'enfance retrouvé le soir même et avec qui il aura passé la nuit jusqu'au petit matin.
