Leticia "Letty" Ortiz is a fictional character in the The Fast and the Furious film series portrayed by Michelle Rodriguez and created by screenwriter Gary Scott Thompson. She is first introduced in the film The Fast and the Furious (2001). She also appears in the sequels Fast & Furious (2009) and Fast Five (2011).Letty is portrayed as the ex-love interest, mechanic, and fellow street racer of Dominic Toretto. In The Fast and the Furious, she expresses some concern about Dominic's carjacking scheme and in the film's climax, she survives rolling her car during a botched highway robbery. Fast & Furious shows that Letty is on Dominic's crew in his heists of fuel tankers in the Dominican Republic. She and Dominic part ways shortly afterwards. Some time later, Mia Toretto tells Dominic that Letty has been murdered. It is revealed that Letty contacted FBI agent Brian O'Conner and became a double agent for Arturo Braga's crime ring to allow Dominic to return home. In a post-credits scene of Fast Five, Lucas "Luke" Hobbs receives a file regarding a robbery, in which Letty's photograph is attached, suggesting that she is involved with the robbery, and is still alive.

After defeating Owen Shaw and his crew and securing amnesty for their past crimes, Dominic "Dom" Toretto, Brian O'Conner, and the rest of their team have returned to the United States to live normal lives again. Brian begins to accustom himself to life as a father, while Dom tries to help Letty Ortiz regain her memories. Meanwhile, Owen's older brother, Deckard Shaw, breaks into the secure hospital the comatose Owen is being held in and swears vengeance against Dom, before breaking into Luke Hobbs' DSS office to extract profiles of Dom's crew. After revealing his identity, Shaw engages Hobbs in a fight, and escapes when he detonates a bomb that severely injures Hobbs. Dom later learns from his sister Mia that she is pregnant again and convinces her to tell Brian. However, a bomb, disguised in a package sent from Tokyo, explodes and destroys the Toretto house just seconds after Han, a member of their team, is killed by Shaw in Tokyo. Dom later visits Hobbs in a hospital, where he learns that Shaw is a rogue special forces assassin seeking to avenge his brother. Dom then travels to Tokyo to claim Han's body, where he meets and races Sean Boswell, a friend of Han's, who gives him personal items found at Han's crash site.

In Arizona, 17-year-old high school student Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) and Clay (Zachery Ty Bryan) race their cars to win Clay's girlfriend Cindy (Nikki Griffin). When Sean cuts through a structure and catches up to Clay, Clay hits Sean's car repeatedly until a high speed turn which causes the pair to both crash; Clay's wealthy family helps him escape punishment, but Sean's numerous past racing activities causes his mother to send him to live with his father in Tokyo, who is stationed there for the U.S. Navy.
