Alyque Padamsee is an Indian theater personality and ad film maker. He is probably best known in the English-speaking world for playing Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the film Gandhi. Besides being involved in Indian theatre as an actor and producer, Padamsee is an advertising professional who headed the advertising company Lintas.

Biography

Padamsee was born into a traditional Khoja Muslim family from the Kutch region of Gujarat but describes himself as an agnostic who disinherited his religion at the age of 18. He has been married twice — to Pearl Padamsee with whom he has a daughter, Raell Padamsee and son, Rahul Padamsee; and later to Sharon Prabhakar with whom he has a daughter, actress Shazahn Padamsee. He also had a son Quasar Padamsee with Dolly Thakore, before he married Sharon. All three women were connected with the performing arts.

Raju (Raj Kapoor) is a poor, friendly orphan who wins his bread by singing songs. One day he sees an injured man and helps him. Later he is kidnapped by few bandits who mistake him to be an undercover policeman. It then turns out that the injured man he helped is the leader (Sardar) of this gang. The Sardar takes good care of Raju and treats him with honour. Sardar's daughter Kammo (Padmini) falls in love with Raju. Kammo and Sardar convince Raju of how they are good bandits who are making sure that wealth is equally distributed amongst people.
