Three young local news reporters, Charlie, Milo, and Sarah, live in a small town, where they work at a local TV channel. The life in their town is boring and eventless, so the trio avidly searches for new, hot material. Soon they find an interesting story to report—a mysterious disappearance of a local family whose house they visit. The group finds several home videotapes there, and, looking through the usual family videos, the guys find something strange. In addition to family members on tapes, there briefly appears a mysterious faceless figure wearing a black business suit. Gradually, the guys understand that they have occasionally summoned a demon that now starts pursuing them. Its name is Slender, and it can be seen only via videocameras.

Slacker David Wong beheads a zombie skinhead with an axe and asks whether an axe that had its handle and head replaced over time is still the same axe. David next appears in a restaurant and recounts his story to reporter Arnie Blondestone. Immediately after his apparent demise at the end of Phantasm II, a new Tall Man emerges from a dimensional portal. At the same time, the hearse that carries Liz and Mike explodes. Reggie finds Liz dead but saves Mike from the Tall Man by threatening to kill them all with a grenade. The Tall Man retreats with Liz's body and threatens to return for Mike when he's well again. After Mike spends two years comatose in the hospital, he has a near death experience in which his dead brother Jody and the Tall Man appear. As he wakes from his coma, he is attacked by a demonic nurse, but Reggie appears and helps him to fight her off. Back at home, the Tall Man arrives via dimensional fork, fights off Reggie, transforms Jody into a charred sphere, and draws Mike through the gate with him.

Because of the repercussions left from his last adventure, Munchie must appear before a celestial court presided over by Kronus (Angus Scrimm). The tribunal proceeds to blame Munchie for a number of historical calamities, including the sinking of Atlantis, the crash of the Hindenburg, the cataclysm of Vesuvius, the meltdown of Chernobyl. As punishment, he is sentenced to help single mom Linda McClelland (Lesley-Anne Down). Linda's son Chris (Trenton Knight) is the only one who can see Munchie, and Munchie and he become best buddies. Chris is the pitcher of a Little League team, and is being bullied by Brett Carlisle (Corey Mendelsohn), who is his rival in baseball as well as for the attentions of the girl-next-door Jennifer (Natanya Ross). While out of town on a business trip, Linda's boss makes improper advances to her. When she refuses his advances, he fires her. This creates financial hardship on the family. Munchie intervenes in their lives, making it so Chris has a perfect game and impresses Jennifer, and Linda finds a bag of money to prevent eviction. Munchie appears back before the tribunal, who assign his next punishment... to help Bill Clinton.
