He was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Joseph and Patricia Delate, but would be primarily raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Delate served in the Vietnam War before entering a career in acting.

Brian is best known worldwide for portraying Walter Moore/Kirk Burbank in the 1998 Paramount film The Truman Show.

The film follows the life of two children who become wards of the state in New Jersey after a home invasion results in the murder of their parents. He suffers abuse at the hands of the caretakers and as a punishment is masked and exiled. Johnny Rizzo, a young man who dreams of working in radio, is engaged to Claire. George (Jake Weber) is a highly-strung professional photographer who is starting to unravel from the stress of his work with a Manhattan advertising agency. The story is narrated by Sunny von Bülow who is in a coma after falling into diabetic shock after a Christmas party.
