Conor MacNeill (born 4 July 1988) is an actor from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who has appeared on stage, film and TV.

Biography

MacNeill was born in West Belfast and has appeared in such films as Fifty Dead Men Walking and Peacefire directed by Macdara Vallely. He made a cameo appearance as 'Fanta' in Cherrybomb. He played the character of Dave in Five Minutes of Heaven. The film was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and was premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

He starred alongside Risteárd Cooper as Ciaran MacIonraic in Irish comedy drama An Crisís, for which he received a Nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy drama series at the 2010 Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo. He performed extensively on stage in Ireland. Acting in productions at Lyric Players' Theatre, Gate Theatre and Project Arts Centre. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2011 Irish Times Theatre Awards.

In 2011, he appeared, with Brendan Fraser, David O'Hara and Martin McCann, in Whole Lotta Sole directed by Terry George. The film premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. He appeared alongside David Wilmot in RTE's Saving The Titanic playing Frank Bell.

In 2013 he Appeared as series regular Pvt. McIlvenny in Privates on BBC One and reprised his role as Ciaran MacIonraic in "Crisis Eile" for TG4.

MacNeill made his London stage debut in 2012 at the Donmar Warehouse and appeared on stage alongside Daniel Radcliffe in The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh, directed by Michael Grandage at the Noël Coward Theatre in London's West End throughout the summer of 2013. In Spring 2014 this production transferred to Broadway at the Cort Theatre for a limited run. The show garnered 6 TONY Award nominations.

Martin McGartland (Jim Sturgess) is a 21-year-old street hustler from Northern Ireland, living in the late 1980s. The Irish Republican Army wants to recruit him, but he is reluctant because of what he sees as their cruel street justice. Because of his connection to the community, the British police want him to infiltrate and spy on the IRA. Marty agrees because of the car and money he gets from the police and because he despises the IRA. The IRA accepts him as a Volunteer and in that position he learns of various planned attacks. He then informs Fergus, his police contact, to prevent these attacks. He builds up a new sense of self-esteem, but he cannot tell his family and friends about his activities. Even his new girlfriend Lara (Natalie Press) only notices that he seems to do some work for the IRA, which worries her.

Colin McNally (John Travers) is a troubled teenager being brought up by his widowed mother following his fathers death. With his carefree attitude towards the political situation in Northern Ireland, Colin becomes involved in criminal activities. He and friends, Spuds (Gerard Jordan) and Jimbo (Sean Roberts) begin to steal cars, take them for a joyride and later set fire to them. Following a car accident on one of their joyrides, Colin and his friends escape with only a few minor injuries and are arrested. While he and his friends are separately being questioned, a policeman makes Colin an offer - either he helps the police by becoming an informant in bringing down a top IRA man or he and his friends will be sent to prison. Although his father was a top IRA man before he died, Colin, knowing that he is making the wrong decision and that he would be going against his father and the others, takes the policeman up on his offer in order to stay out of prison which causes friction between him and his friends. Colin, Spuds, and Jimbo continue their criminal behavior and following numerous warnings from the police and the IRA, who has been lenient with Colin for who is father was, Spuds and Jimbo are kneecapped and Colin, having escaped this, is threatened and told to leave the country. Colin eventually has the top IRA man captured, and with his guilt he goes to the local priest for forgiveness. While there is nothing more the priest can do, the IRA men enter the church and take Colin to kill him. Colin asks one last thing of them for which it is granted. He writes a letter to his mother telling her that he is safe and well in England so that she will not worry about him. Colin is then shot dead by the IRA men.
