Crissy Rock (born Christine Murray; 23 September 1958) is an English award-winning actress, stand-up comedienne, and best-selling author, most notable for her role as Maggie Conlan in the 1994 film Ladybird, Ladybird, and as Janey York in Benidorm whom she played from 2007, until 2011 when she was axed from the show, although she returned in Episode 6 of Season 5 for a cameo role, and then again permanently for series 7 in 2015 replacing Sherrie Hewson as the Solona manager. She also appeared in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! 2011. In December 2012, she appeared on Celebrity Come Dine With Me. For her performance in Ladybird, Ladybird, she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress award at the 44th Berlin International Film Festival.

Rock also used to perform a daily stand-up comedy show in the UK cabaret club in Benidorm, which is situated below the Hotel Presidente until early 2011.

Biography

Rock was born in south Liverpool in 1958 to Edward Murray and Margaret Bryan. As of September 2012 she lives in Peterlee, County Durham. Her parents had married at St Nathaniel's Church of England church several months before her birth. Her grandmother Henrietta Pinnington was born in Garston in 1906 and her ancestral roots lay in Lancashire, Cheshire and Wiltshire.

Her best-selling autobiography This Heart Within Me Burns was published in 2011, and chronicles the ups and downs of her troubled life, including childhood abuse, violent relationships, bankruptcy and homelessness. The book made the top ten of the Sunday Times best-seller list for seven months and was released as a paperback in 2012 having hit 35,000 sales. The autobiography revived her career and Rock went onto make regular appearances on ITV's This Morning programme to discuss the book and her life.

A Boy Called Dad tells the story of Robbie, a fourteen-year-old boy who has just become a father. Robbie wishes to take responsibility for his baby son, Elliot, but the mother wants nothing more to do with him. A near-accident reunites Robbie with his estranged father, Joe, and for a while their relationship flourishes. But Joe proves a feckless, unreliable man, and Robbie realizes he does not want to be the same kind of father to his own child. After seeing the baby with his mother and her abusive new boyfriend, Robbie decides to take action. Confrontation leads to violence, and Robbie kidnaps his son and goes on the run. Travelling cross-country, he meets Nia, a traumatized young woman who has some ugly family issues to resolve. Meanwhile an increasingly guilt-ridden Joe searches for Robbie, trying to guess where he might go next. His search leads to a final confrontation between Joe and Robbie, in which each is forced to face up to the past. The police soon arrive and Robbie gives Joe his son. In the end, Robbie says "They reckon that when you're drowning, you see your life flash before ya. But I didn't, I saw someone else's life, it was my son's, Elliot.

In a karaoke bar Maggie (Crissy Rock), a woman with a troubled past, meets South American Jorge and has a drink with him. During their conversation we learn about both their past lives; in flashback we learn that she witnessed her father beating her mother, and later was beaten several times by her ex-partner (Ray Winstone). She has four children by four different fathers and all of her children are in care. Jorge is a Paraguayan who is afraid to return to his own country for fear of persecution there.
