Deborah Watling (born 2 January 1948) is an English actress best known for her role as Victoria Waterfield, a companion of the Second Doctor in the BBC television series Doctor Who.
Watling was born at Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of actors Jack Watling and Patricia Hicks. Her sister Dilys and her brother Giles are also actors. Beginning as a child actress, she had a regular role as the niece of Peter Brady in The Invisible Man (1958) television series. She was later cast for the lead role in Alice (1965), Dennis Potter's version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, for the BBC's The Wednesday Play, a small role in That'll Be the Day (1973) and as Norma Baker in the ITV series Danger UXB (1979). She also co-starred with Cliff Richard in the 1973 film Take Me High.
Watling played Victoria in Doctor Who from 1967 to 1968, though owing to the BBC's wiping policy of the time, The Tomb of the Cybermen (1967) and The Enemy of the World (1967-1968) are the only serials in which she appeared to still exist in their entirety. She also appeared in Dimensions in Time (1993) and Downtime (1995).
Watling has also appeared in the Doctor Who audio drama Three's a Crowd and regularly attends Doctor Who conventions and events. In November 2013 she appeared in the one-off 50th anniversary comedy homage The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.
Deborah Watling est la fille de l'acteur Jack Watling et de l'actrice Patricia Hicks et suit très vite les traces de ses deux parents (sa sœur Dilys et son frère Giles embrassent aussi la même carrière.) Débutant en tant qu'enfant-acteur, elle eut un rôle récurrent dès l'âge de 10 ans dans la série L'Homme invisible en jouant le rôle de la nièce de Peter Brady. En 1965, elle tient le rôle d'Alice dans une version par Dennis Potter d'Alice au pays des merveilles ainsi que dans une série de la BBC The Wednesday Play.
Après son passage dans Doctor Who, elle joue avec Cliff Richard dans le film Take Me High en 1970, tient un petit rôle en 1973 dans le film That'll Be the Day et tient en 1979 le rôle de Norma Baker dans une série de la ITV Danger UXB.

En 1967, l'acteur Michael Craze et l'actrice Anneke Wills sont sortis du casting de la série Doctor Who car leurs personnages de Ben et Polly ne semblent pas vraiment fonctionner. Le scénariste David Whitaker introduit le personnage de Victoria Waterfield une jeune orpheline du XIX siècle afin d'avoir un personnage féminin qui puisse donner la réplique au Docteur et à Jamie. Introduit le 27 mai 1967 dans la seconde partie de « The Evil of the Daleks », son personnage tient une année entière, soit 6 sérials et près de 40 épisodes. L'actrice n'ayant pas souhaité continuer une deuxième année, son personnage repart le 20 avril 1968 à la fin du sérial « Fury from the Deep »
À cause de l'effacement des bandes de la BBC, les seuls épisodes intégralement intact dans lesquelles elle apparaît sont « The Tomb of the Cybermen et « The Enemy of the World. ». Elle reprend son rôle dans l'épisode « Dimensions in Time » en 1993 et dans un spin-off non officiel, « Downtime » en 1995. Elle joue aussi à la fin des années 90 dans des pièces radiophoniques autour de Doctor Who pour la compagnie Big Finish et apparaissait couramment dans les conventions dédiées à la série.

Atteinte d'un cancer au début de l'année 2017, elle meurt le 21 juillet à 69 ans. Elle vivait à Thorpe-le-Soken dans le comté de l'Essex avec son mari Steve Turner.

Jim MacLaine (David Essex) was abandoned by his father when he was young. Later, as a suburban school dropout, Jim leaves home and drifts through a succession of dead-end jobs until he finds an outlet for his frustration in rock 'n' roll. Tossing away the chance of a university education much to the consternation of his mother, alienated MacLaine becomes a lowly deckchair attendant before streetwise friend Mike (Ringo Starr) gets him a job firstly as a barman and then with the fun fair. The initially shy MacLaine quickly becomes a heartless fairground Romeo leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake. Eventually MacLaine returns home to run the family store and marry his girlfriend, but despite the birth of a son, restless Jim feels the lure of rock ’n’ roll again.
