Fabrizio est acousticien, Alex dirige le service marketing d'une grande marque de sous-vêtements. La quarantaine, ils forment un couple heureux, sans enfant, avec leur vieille chienne Esperanza.Poursuivant sa carrière tambour battant, Alex se voit proposer un poste à New York, pour reprendre, à son retour, la présidence de la filiale française. Sentant poindre en elle un désir d'enfant, elle se trouve face à un dilemme : la maternité lui semble incompatible avec l'avenir brillant qu'on lui prédit.
