The movie is set in a hospital where "strange" people are sent. One of the older, gruffer patients, is Onuki, a business owner who is sent to the hospital after a heart attack, thinks little of the other hospital patients, and hopes to die without being remembered by such "worthless" people. Elderly sisters Ume (Kyōko Kishida) and Kame (Kazuko Yoshiyuki) spend their days dumpster diving in order to find various "treasures" that they haul back to their house, which is full of the various objects that they've collected over the years. One day they discover a skein of red yarn, which prompts the appearance of Aminaoshi (Ayu Kitaura), a strange young girl that uses the yarn to repeatedly knit and then unravel a red sweater. They try to get her to leave, only for her to refuse and try to damage things in the house. The two sisters let her stay, but her presence brings back memories of a door-to-door junk dealer that they had both become infatuated with before he left to fight in World War II. He never returned, but Ume and Kame kept hope that he would return and collected various bits of trash in preparation for when he comes back. Through Aminaoshi, the two sisters eventually come to terms with the fact that the junk dealer will not return.

Nasu: Summer in Andalusia follows the story of a professional Spanish cyclist, Pepe Benengeli, as he competes in the Vuelta a España road bicycle race through his home town in the Iberian region of Andalusia. As the story progresses, Pepe is faced with frustrating consequences, with him facing pressure from his sponsors and the wedding of his former girlfriend, Carmen, to his elder brother, Angel, coinciding on the same day of the penultimate stage of the bicycle race. Originally is meant to be a backup racer (domestique) whose job is to assist his more prominent team-mate to win the race. However he accidentally overhears a conversation in his sponsor's van through his radio com-link which had been negligently left open, in which he finds out, to his shock, that his sponsor intends to fire him after the race. Realizing that he may not find another team for the next season and that he has nothing left to lose, he disregards his instructions and sets out to win the race for himself.
