Eleanor Jane Mondale Poling (January 19, 1960 – September 17, 2011) was an American radio personality, television host, and actress.

Biography

Mondale was the only daughter of Joan Mondale and former Vice President Walter Mondale. Her older brother is former Minnesota State Senator Theodore A. "Ted" Mondale. Her younger brother is attorney William H. Mondale, the former assistant Minnesota attorney general. For her senior year of high school, Mondale attended St. Timothy's, a boarding school outside of Baltimore. After graduating from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, she moved to begin a career in Hollywood.

Chicago air traffic controller Jack Harris (Kiefer Sutherland) was cleared of liability for an ill-fated flight under his authority, such that resulted in the loss of all 174 souls aboard. He subsequently left the job and went on to design air control software, until five years later when T.C. Bryant (Bruce McGill), his ex-colleague who had since transferred to Phoenix, pleads for help on New Year's Eve due to a critical staff shortage and with torrential weather predicted. His return to the control room is met with warmth and disdain, particularly when he experiences flashbacks of the historic incident. The atmosphere rapidly becomes much more serious as the storm approaches and with the control tower suffering power cuts, the team is forced into manually directing busy air traffic through severe turbulence.

Lizzie Cronin is an unassertive and repressed woman, domineered by her controlling mother, Polly. While taking her lunch break from work, she calls her husband, Charles, whom she is separated from, hoping to sort out their problems. He reasserts his desire for a divorce and says that he is in love with another woman named Annabella. While she is at the public phone, first her purse is stolen, then her car. Alan O'Black (John Ritter) is an aspiring stand-up comic who takes on a job as limousine driver in order to prove to his girlfriend Julie (Susan Dey) after she has kicked him out of their shared home, that he can be a responsible adult. Her standing complaint about Alan as a boyfriend has been that he sees life as one long rehearsal. This is exacerbated by the fact that, even with a now-steady job and dealing with strange passenger/clients, Alan rehearses his comedy at every opportunity and deals with bizarre situations with good-natured aplomb. He and his buddy Jay (Paul Reiser) become involved the shady dealings of businessman Bradley Coleman (Martin Short), which results in a chase through Los Angeles with both sides of the law in pursuit.
