During the 1982 Lebanon War, an Israeli fighter pilot, Yoni, is shot down over Beirut and captured by the Palestine Liberation Organization. Fahed, a precocious young Palestinian refugee who is angered by the death of his father in an Israeli air attack, agrees to help Yoni escape and lead him out of the city if Yoni will get him over the border and back to his family's ancestral village, where Fahed intends to plant an olive tree that his father had been tending in Beirut. As they embark on a hazardous road trip across the war-ravaged country, Yoni and Fahed move from suspicion and mutual antagonism to a tentative camaraderie as they make their way closer to the place they both call home.

Rien ne va plus pour le Directeur des Ressources Humaines de la plus grande boulangerie de Jérusalem : il s’est séparé de sa femme, sa fille le boude et il est empêtré dans un boulot qu’il déteste. Suite à la mort accidentelle d’une de ses employées, la boulangerie est accusée d’inhumanité et d’indifférence par un quotidien local. Le DRH est alors envoyé en mission pour redorer l’image de l’entreprise. C’est le début d’un périple qui l'entraîne des rues mystiques de Jérusalem à la glaciale Roumanie, à la recherche du village de Yulia, cette femme qu’il ne connaissait pas mais qu’il apprend petit à petit à admirer. A la tête d’un convoi chaotique, entre le fils de la défunte, en révolte contre tous, un exaspérant journaliste, une consule excentrique et un encombrant cercueil, le DRH retrouve son humanité et sa vraie capacité à s’occuper des « ressources humaines ».

The Israeli Secret Service views the neighboring lemon grove of Salma Zidane (Hiam Abbass), a Palestinian widow whose family has cared for the area for generations, as a threat to the Minister and his wife. Set in the summer of 2000, Mona (Clara Khoury), a young Druze woman living at Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, is about to marry a successful Syrian actor. Following the hostilities between Israel and Syria there is now the demilitarised UNDOF zone between occupied Golan and Syria observed by United Nations staff. Crossing of the zone is extremely rare as it is only granted by both sides under special circumstances. It has taken 6 months to obtain permission from the Israeli administration for Mona to leave the Golan. When Mona crosses she will not be able to return to her family on the Golan even to visit. Mona is a bit hesitant also because she doesn't know her husband-to-be.
