Frank Tarloff est un scénariste et dramaturge américain né le 4 février 1916 dans le quartier de Brooklyn à New York (État de New York) et mort le 25 juin 1999 dans le quartier de Beverly Hills à Los Angeles (Californie).

Biography

Né à Brooklyn, Frank Tarloff déménage en Californie en 1942 et est embauché par Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. À peu près à la même période, il adhère au Parti communiste, sans être un militant très zélé. En 1953, il est convoqué devant la Commission sur les activités antiaméricaines, mais il refuse de témoigner contre ses collègues. Il est alors mis sur liste noire et en quelques mois se retrouve sans travail.

Il est alors obligé de prendre un pseudonyme, il essaye Erik Sheppard, mais sans grand succès, il change alors pour David Adler et, en tant que tel, trouve alors un agent pour le représenter .

Il déménage ensuite en Angleterre où il trouve rapidement du travail comme scénariste et ce n'est qu'en 1965 qu'il sera de nouveau vraiment réintégré à Hollywood, à l'occasion de l'Oscar qu'il reçoit pour le scénario de Grand méchant loup appelle.

While the Royal Australian Navy evacuates Salamaua in February 1942 ahead of a Japanese invasion, Commander Frank Houghton (Trevor Howard) coerces old friend, American beachcomber Walter Eckland (Cary Grant), into becoming a coast-watcher for the Allies. Houghton takes Eckland, who is uninterested in anything other than fishing and drinking, to deserted Matalava Island to watch for Japanese planes. Houghton rewards Eckland's sightings with directions to one of the whisky bottles hidden around the island, once coast-watchers on other islands confirm it. To ensure Eckland remains on duty Houghton's naval vessel "accidentally" hits his boat, leaving a large hole in its hull.
