Gabriel Katzka (1931-1990) was an American theater, film and television producer.

Biography

Early life
He was born in Brooklyn, New York City on January 25, 1931. His father, Emil Katzka, was a lawyer who had a stake in some Broadway productions. He had a sister, Benji K. Green. He attended Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School. He graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.


Career
He produced many films and plays. He was noted for his uncanny ability to raise financial capital for theatrical and cinematic productions.


Personal life
He was married Carol Ward Dudley Katzka, and they had a son, Edward Dudley Katzka. They lived on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. He died on February 19, 1990 in New York. A memorial service was performed at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in Manhattan and at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. He was buried in the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.

While driving through Mississippi on their honeymoon, Caroline and Eli MacCleary (Bibi Besch and Ronny Cox) are stranded on a deserted road when their car is stuck in the mud. Eli is forced to walk several miles down the road to a service station they stopped at earlier to get a tow. As Eli begins the trek back to the station, the film cuts to a dark house in which a strange creature is being held captive in the cellar. The creature breaks its chain and escapes into the forest. As it nears the MacCleary's car Caroline's dog jumps out of the window to confront it. Caroline chases after the animal, but flees in terror when she stumbles across the canine's mutilated corpse. While fleeing back to the car she knocks herself unconscious after running into a tree. The creature tears off her clothes and rapes her, then leaves her in the forest alone. Eli and the service station attendant find her and take her to the tow truck. As they drive off two gunshots are heard from the forest.

The film opens in Saigon at the height of the Vietnam War. John Converse (Moriarty), a disillusioned war correspondent, approaches Ray Hicks (Nolte), a merchant marine sailor and acquaintance of Converse's from the US, for help in smuggling a large quantity of heroin from Vietnam to San Francisco, where he will exchange the drugs for payment with Converse's wife Marge (Weld), who has become addicted to Dilaudid. When Hicks discovers he is being followed by thugs connected either to Converse or his suppliers, he goes on the run with Marge and the heroin, and is eventually pursued by the corrupt DEA agent (Zerbe), who initially set the deal in motion. As Marge is separated from her supply of prescription drugs, she experiences withdrawal, and Hicks decides to help her wean off her dilaudid addiction by using the heroin. Hicks also attempts to find another buyer for the heroin before his pursuers can catch up to him.
