George Hackathorne (February 13, 1896 – June 25, 1940) was an American actor of the silent era. He appeared in 59 films between 1916 and 1939. His interment was located in Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Biography

Surtout actif durant la période du muet, George Hackathorne débute au cinéma dans Oliver Twist de James Young (avec Marie Doro dans le rôle-titre et Tully Marshall), sorti en 1916.

Suit une quarantaine d'autres films muets américains, dont Tom Sawyer de William Desmond Taylor (1917, avec Jack Pickford dans le rôle-titre), Le Dernier des Mohicans de Clarence Brown et Maurice Tourneur (1920, avec Wallace Beery et Barbara Bedford), Les Chevaux de bois d'Erich von Stroheim et Rupert Julian (1923, avec Norman Kerry et Mary Philbin), ou encore Sa vie de Frank Borzage (1925, avec Norma Talmadge et Wallace MacDonald).

The life of spoiled Robert Merrick (Robert Taylor) is saved through the use of a hospital's only pulmotor, but because the medical device cannot be in two places at once, it results in the death of Dr. Hudson, a selfless, brilliant surgeon and generous philanthropist. Merrick falls in love with Hudson's widow, Helen (Irene Dunne), though she holds him responsible for her husband's demise. One day, he insists on driving her home and makes a pass at her. She gets out and is struck by another car, losing her sight. Merrick confronts a friend of Helen's husband, wanting to know why a beautiful young woman would marry a middle-aged man. The doctor's friend tells him that her husband had a philosophy—to help people, but never let it be known that you are the one helping them.
