James Christopher Frey (born September 12, 1969) is an American writer and the Founder and CEO of Full Fathom Five, a transmedia production company responsible for the New York Times–bestselling young adult series "The Lorien Legacies", the first book of which I Am Number Four (2010) was made into a hit feature film by DreamWorks Studios. His books A Million Little Pieces (2003) and My Friend Leonard (2005), as well as Bright Shiny Morning (2008), were worldwide bestsellers and he has been published in 31 languages. He was the subject of a scandal when investigators discovered that certain elements were exaggerated in A Million Little Pieces, a memoir of the author's struggle with and recovery from addiction.

James Frey est diplômé de la Denison University et a également pris des cours à l'École de l'Institut d'art de Chicago. Il est principalement connu pour ses « mémoires », A Million Little Pieces, publié par Nan Talese/Doubleday au printemps 2003 et sa suite, My Friend Leonard publié par Riverhead en été 2005.
