Jeff Dowd (né le 20 novembre 1949 à Oakland, en Californie) est un producteur de cinéma et ancien militant politique américain.

Biography

Jeff Dowd a été un contestataire radical durant la guerre du Viêt Nam et a fait partie des Sept de Seattle. Cela lui a valu un bref séjour en prison après une violente manifestation contre la guerre.

Il est ensuite parti pour Los Angeles où il est devenu producteur de cinéma. Il a ainsi participé à la production de Recherche Susan désespérément (1985) et Les Aventures de Zak et Crysta dans la forêt tropicale de FernGully (1992). Les frères Coen l'ont rencontré alors qu'ils essayaient de trouver un distributeur pour leur premier film, Sang pour sang (1984), et se sont inspirés de sa personnalité et de certains détails de sa vie pour créer le personnage du « Duc » (The Dude en VO) dans le film The Big Lebowski (1998).

The film is a pseudo documentary about a filmmaker who throws a Valentine's Day party at an old theater that is about to be demolished. The filmmaker invites numerous single friends, including his brother, the real estate agent who sold the theater to a developer who is going to build a modern shopping mall, to the party and then quizzes them on camera about their lives, failed relationships, intimacy issues, and loneliness.

Crysta is a fairy with a curious nature living in FernGully, a pristine rainforest free from humans. The fairies of FernGully once lived in harmony with humans, but believe them to have gone extinct after being driven away by a malevolent spirit named Hexxus. Crysta is the apprentice of Magi, a motherly-figure fairy who imprisoned Hexxus in a tree. One day Crysta explores a new part of the forest and meets Batty, a bat who claims to have been experimented on by humans, giving him an unstable personality. She refuses to believe him until she encounters lumberjacks cutting down trees. She sees Zak, a young human whom Crysta accidentally shrinks when she tries to save him from being crushed by a falling tree, though does not know how to restore him to normal size.
