Jill Angela Henriette Balcon (3 January 1925 – 18 July 2009) was an English film and radio actress. She made her film debut in Nicholas Nickleby (1947), though she was best known for her stage, television, and radio work.

Biography

Fille de Michael Balcon et Aileen Freda Leatherman, elle épouse en 1951 le poète lauréat irlandais Cecil Day-Lewis, de 21 ans son aîné. Déjà marié au moment de leur rencontre, il partage son temps entre elle, sa maîtresse Rosamond Lehmann et son épouse Mary King Day-Lewis, avec qui il a déjà deux fils.

Ils ont ensemble deux enfants, l'acteur Daniel Day-Lewis et la réalisatrice et chef cuisinier Tamasin Day-Lewis, née le 17 septembre 1953.

Jill Balcon est morte en 2009 d'une tumeur au cerveau, à l'age 84 ans.

Once installed as king, Edward II summons his friend and lover, Piers Gaveston, to his side and showers him with gifts, titles and abiding love. Their relationship is fiery and passionate, but it is the focus of gossip and derision throughout the kingdom. Upon his return, Gaveston takes revenge on the Bishop of Winchester, who had been responsible for his banishment from England during the previous reign, by personally torturing him. Kent, Edwards’ brother, is the first to protest Gaveston's return. Many others feel the same way, including the Bishop of Winchester and Lord Mortimer, who is in charge of the army forces of the kingdom. Nevertheless, Edward defends his lover from his mounting enemies.
