John DeCuir (1918 – 1991) was a Hollywood Art Director and Production Designer known for his elaborate set designs that were illustrated with his own watercolor paintings.

He studied at the Chouinard Art School, joined Universal in the late 1930s, and by the mid-1940s was designing sets. In 1949, he signed with 20th Century Fox where he worked on productions noted for their elaborate sets. At home with dramatic material (such as The House on Telegraph Hill 1951) and musicals (such as There's No Business Like Show Business 1954), DeCuir earned eleven Oscar nominations, winning three: The King and I (1956), Cleopatra (1963), and Hello, Dolly! (1969).

His son, John DeCuir, Jr. is also a production designer.

Biography

John DeCuir fait des études d'art au Chouinard Art Institute à Los Angeles. À la fin des années 1930, il trouve du travail comme illustrateur chez Universal. Pendant une dizaine d'années, il y parfait son travail puis il entre à la Fox. Son talent est bientôt reconnu par plusieurs nominations aux Oscars. Ses plus célèbres productions seront Le Roi et moi et Cléopâtre.

Une de ses rares productions pour la télévision lui vaudra un Emmy Award.

Through her "Contacts and Contracts" company, Mae Swasey is busy scheming to bring couples together. It is not very rewarding financially, and Mae is in debt. Even one of her seeming successes, Ina Kuschner's impending wedding to Radiographer Matt Hornbeck, does not go as hoped. Ina's mother refuses to pay Mae the agreed-upon $500 commission. Mae, however, gets the last laugh; Matt gets cold feet at the last moment and leaves the bride waiting at the altar.
