As war breaks out in Europe, young Americans Chuck S. Brewer (Robert Stack), Johnny M. Coe (Leif Erickson) and Wadislaw Borowsky (Edgar Barrier) cross the Atlantic to join the Royal Air Force. Assigned to the Eagle Squadron, made up of other American pilots, they make friends with Squadron Leader Paddy Carson (John Loder), and women flyers Anne Partridge (Diana Barrymore) and Nancy Mitchell (Evelyn Ankers). Un coup de feu éclate. Une jeune femme déboule dans la chambre d'hôtel de John Conroy, un policier. Il la cache au détective de l'hôtel mais, lorsqu'il revient à sa chambre, elle a disparu, lui laissant une adresse. Le même soir, il rend visite à cette Marian, qui habite chez un certain M. Barstow. En fait, Barstow a demandé à Marian de séduire Conroy, qui est sur la piste de contrefacteurs, à la tête desquels est justement Barstow. Joan Morant, qui se tient à distance du petit peuple, est ravie quand la guerre change la monotonie de sa communauté, et, mettant à contribution son oncle, membre du Congrès, elle se fait affecter en Europe. Les compagnes de Joan, qui font constamment de grands sacrifices, la font s'interroger sur l'utilité de son travail. Quand Reggie, appelé au front, devient désespérément alcoolique, elle prend son uniforme et le remplace parmi les soldats, où elle se découvre de l'admiration et de l'amour pour Tom, son supérieur. Après avoir prouvé son héroïsme dans la bataille, elle revient vers Tom, digne de son amour.
