Josef Fares (born 19 September 1977) is a Crystal-Simorgh winning Swedish-Assyrian film director. His brother is the actor Fares Fares, who has appeared in many of his films.
Josef Fares moved to Sweden when he was 10 years old and lives in Örebro, Örebro län.
Variety declared him one of ten upcoming directors to watch in 2006. The same year he won the Nordic Council Film Prize for his film Zozo.
He also played the character of "Josef" in his feature film Leo, which was selected for the Focus section in the 58th Edition of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2008.
In 2013, he directed his first video game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The game was well received by critics, with the focus being about the interaction between two brothers and their journey to save their father. Biography
À l'âge de 10 ans, Josef Fares et sa famille émigrent en Suède et s'installent à Örebro. Il vit désormais à Stockholm.
Il étudie au Dramatiska Institutet, l'École supérieure de cinéma, radio, télévision et théâtre de Stockholm et durant son cycle d'études, noue des relations privilégiées avec la société de production Memfis Film qui lui permettent de réaliser son premier film Jalla! Jalla!.
Son père Jan Fares, ainsi que son frère Fares Fares sont acteurs, et ont été à l'affiche de ses films.
Son quatrième film, Leo, où il est également acteur et tient le rôle de Josef, sorti en Suède en 2007, a été présenté lors du Festival international du film de Berlin 2008, dans la section Forum.
Il participe à la création des jeux vidéo Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013) et A Way Out (2018), en tant que scénariste et réalisateur.
