Licínio Azevedo, : né à Porto Alegre en 1951, est un cinéaste et un écrivain brésilien installé au Mozambique. Il participe aux expériences de formation en cinéma organisées par Ruy Guerra et Jean-Luc Godard à l'Institut national de cinéma du Mozambique. Il travaille au sein de la société de production Ebano Multimedia dont il est un des cofondateurs. Plusieurs de ses nombreuses productions ont été récompensées par des prix dans plusieurs festivals de par le monde.

À l’époque coloniale, le Grand Hôtel dans la ville de Beira était le plus grand hôtel du Mozambique : 350 chambres, des suites luxueuses, piscine olympique… Désormais l’édifice, en ruines, sans électricité ni eau courante, est habité par 3 500 personnes. Certains vivent ici depuis vingt ans. En plus des chambres, les antichambres, couloirs, aires de service et le sous-sol de l’hôtel – où c’est toujours la nuit – servent également d’habitation.

Rosa, a Mozambican peasant, is accused by the family of her husband of having caused his suicide by refusing to obey him. She is suspected of having a "spirit-husband". In order to prove her innocence, Rosa submits herself to two trials: one by a traditional healer, the other in court. She is absolved twice. Nevertheless, the dead man relatives continue to persecute her and she is punished in a cruel way.
