Maja Ostaszewska (born September 3, 1972) is a Polish actress.
She was born in Kraków, the daughter of Polish musician Jacek Ostaszewski of Ostoja coat of arms. She started her acting training in her native Kraków and later graduated from PWST, in 1996. She has since acted mostly on Teatr Rozmaitości in Warsaw, working with well-known Polish directors such as Krystian Lupa, Krzysztof Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna.
In 1993, during her acting training, she played a small role in Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, although her actual real film debut was in 1997 with the TV movie "Przystań." For this role, she received the Best Actress Award at the Polish Film Festival held in Gdynia in 1998.
Ostaszewska recently played one of the main characters in Academy Award nominated Andrzej Wajda's Katyń.

Maja Ostazewska est issue d'une famille d'artistes descendant des Ostaszewski au blason Ostoja . Son père, le musicien Jacek Ostaszewski , est le fondateur du groupe Osjan . Durant sa petite enfance, elle vit avec ses parents dans les Monts des Géants, à Przesieka (Basse-Silésie) . Elle effectue sa scolarité secondaire au Lycée n° VII Zofia-Nałkowska de Cracovie. Elle obtient en 1996 son diplôme de l'école nationale supérieure de théâtre de Cracovie. Elle fait partie successivement de la troupe du Teatr Dramatyczny, du Teatr Rozmaitości w Warszawie, et du Théâtre national (Varsovie). Depuis 2008, elle travaille avec le Nowy Teatr de Krzysztof Warlikowski.Maja Ostazewska se réclame du bouddhisme et est végétarienne.

In September 1939, Władysław Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish-Jewish pianist, is playing live on the radio in Warsaw when the station is bombed during Nazi Germany's invasion of Poland which caused the outbreak of World War II. Hoping for a quick victory, Szpilman celebrates with his posh family at home when learning that Britain and France have declared war on Germany. German troops soon enter Warsaw and the Nazi authorities implement measures to identify, isolate, financially ruin and reduce the Jewish population in Warsaw. Jews are ordered to provide their own identifying armbands with the Star of David.

In Kraków during World War II, the Germans had forced local Polish Jews into the overcrowded Kraków Ghetto. Oskar Schindler, an ethnic German, arrives in the city hoping to make his fortune. A member of the Nazi Party, Schindler lavishes bribes on Wehrmacht (German armed forces) and SS officials and acquires a factory to produce enamelware. To help him run the business, Schindler enlists the aid of Itzhak Stern, a local Jewish official who has contacts with black marketeers and the Jewish business community. Stern helps Schindler arrange loans to finance the factory. Schindler maintains friendly relations with the Nazis and enjoys wealth and status as "Herr Direktor", and Stern handles administration. Schindler hires Jewish workers because they cost less, while Stern ensures that as many people as possible are deemed essential to the German war effort, which saves them from being transported to concentration camps or killed.
