Margaret Shelby (June 16, 1900 – December 21, 1939) was an American stage and motion picture actress, daughter of actress Charlotte Shelby, older sister of silent film star Mary Miles Minter and one of many public figures noted in the scandals which followed the murder of William Desmond Taylor in 1922.

As described in a film magazine, the daughter of the "chewing gum king" Joan Hope (Minter) has social aspirations, but is held back by the fact that her father manufactures gum. She meets a countess (Shelby) on a train, who offers to lend Joan her title for a week if she will hold a package for her. Joan accepts, not knowing that the "countess" is actually a thief and that the package contains stolen diamonds. Joan passes herself off as a countess at a big hotel, and detective Kent Standish (Forrest) begins to shadow her. The countess and her gang of crooks try to recover the package of diamonds, causing several entangling situations until Joan escapes with the detective, whom she has come to love.

Based upon a review in a film magazine, Geoffrey Challoner (Chase) finds his bride of a few days Robin (Minter) burning some letters, and he becomes insanely jealous. A few days later, Norman Craig (Garwood) blunders into the Challoner apartment and Robin fires a gun, thinking him to be a burglar. Norman faints from fright and Robin flees, thinking that she killed him. Geoffrey finds Norman in his wife's rooms and decides upon divorce. Before the case goes to trial, Geoffrey makes the same mistake and blunders into Mrs. Craigs's (Shelby) room. A real burglar shows up to complicate the situation. In the end, it turns out that the letters Robin had been burning were from her husband Geoffrey.

Jess Slocum (Minter) is a mountain girl who was stolen as a baby by moonshiner Jim. She was raised to hate America, but is now taken in by Captain Earle Neville when Jim is sent to jail. Earle takes care of Jess, who is wounded, but she is afraid of her new surroundings and soon runs back to the mountain. On her way back, she overhears a group of Mexicans planning to destroy the nearby camp. She rushes back to warn them and is declared a hero. As described in a film magazine, Peggy (Minter) gives her father (Arbuckle) a surprise visit and after the lavish style he has maintained her in at boarding school, she is amazed to find the business he runs in such a dilapidated condition. She starts a new system of doing things and soon the grocery store starts making a profit. Clyde (Forrest), son of the ruthless and wealthy landowner Roland Gardiner (Stockdale), meets Peggy and falls in love with her. His father disapproves of her and insists that the son marry Maude Greenwood (Shelby). A storm plays havoc with the Gardiner mountain home, leaving them without food or supplies, and Maude and her mother depart in anger. Roland Gardiner seeks refuge in the little grocery store, and after Peggy takes advantage and provides some provisions at outrageously inflated prices, comes to the conclusion that she is the right girl for his son after all.
