She is especially known for her role as Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light, a role she played on and off, from 1993 through the show's 2009 cancellation.

While reviewing pictures of the planet Jupiter, astronomer Jennifer Dreiser (Joanna Miles) discovers a new comet streaking through space. The joy of finding the comet is short-lived, however, when it is determined that it may hit the Earth in just eight days. Dreiser is summoned to see the President (Andrew Duggan) at his vacation home, along with a number of other experts, to discuss the situation. Astronomer Jason Voight (Richard Crenna), a specialist in near-Earth objects, shocks the group by telling them that the comet will hit within 50 miles of Phoenix. Voight urges the President to order an evacuation of Phoenix and the surrounding area, but the President ultimately leaves that decision in the hands of Arizona's governor, Michael Ritchie (Nicolas Coster). The President does order the MIRV nosecone of a Minuteman ICBM be launched into space aboard a Titan-Centaur rocket, so that an attempt can be made at destroying the comet.

The film starts with Stella Chernak (Stella Stevens), who arrives at the Peyton Tower Hotel in Peyton Place after an absence of numerous years. Edith Alice "Breezy" Breezerman (Kay Lenz), a free-spirited teenage runaway, wakes up from a one-night stand, gets dressed, and then walks out the door with her guitar. She catches a ride to the valley with a stranger who seems harmless at first, then when he starts to drive in the wrong direction and talks about "giving his last hitchhiker something to yell about", she jumps out of his car, runs-away and ends up on Frank Harmon's (William Holden) front lawn. Frank is a middle aged divorced man, who lives a solitary life at his post modern home in the hills. As he gets into his car to drive to work, Breezy jumps into his car asking for a ride to the valley. Breezy tells Frank about her the trouble she had this morning with the stranger and the two bond. Eventually Breezy sees a dog lying in the road and makes Frank pull over. Angered by Frank's lack of empathy for the poor animal Breezy becomes angry and then runs off crying. Realizing that the dog is still alive Frank carries the dog back to his car, when he opens the door the back seat Frank sees that Breezy left her guitar in his back seat and becomes angry because of all the trouble she has caused him.

À Washington DC, le capitaine de police Frank Matthews a arrêté le meurtrier et violeur Paul Sanderson. Lors de son procès, son avocat W. W. King plaide le vice de forme, alléguant que son client n'a pas été informé de ses droits constitutionnels et la Cour suprême relaxe Sanderson au grand dam de Frank. Parallèlement, ce dernier soupçonne sa femme Adèle d'avoir une liaison avec un homme marié. Pendant qu'il s'est absenté pour se rendre à un colloque à Baltimore, sa femme en profite pour retrouver son amant Brooks Elliot, un ex-petit ami devenu sénateur. Le couple est abattu alors qu'il se trouvait au lit. Frank est le premier suspecté et, malgré son recours à un avocat, le même avocat qui avait défendu Sanderson, il est appréhendé. Pour lui, la culpabilité de Sanderson ne fait aucun doute. Il réussit à s'échapper et va retrouver Sanderson dans sa résidence en Pennsylvanie. Lors de leur affrontement, il réussit à obtenir ses aveux et au moment où Sanderson s'apprête à le tuer, Madame Sanderson mère l'en empêche. Innocenté et de retour à Washington, Frank doute de ses lendemains dans la police.
