Over time, Sauron captures the Nine Rings and creates the Ringwraiths. The One Ring is discovered by Déagol, whose friend, Sméagol, kills him and becomes Gollum (Peter Woodthorpe). Hundreds of years later, Bilbo Baggins (Norman Bird) acquires it from him.
