Muna Wassef (Mona Wassef, Mouna Wasef) (منى واصف) is a Syrian stage, film and television actress. She was born on 1942, as Muna Mustafa Wassef Jelmran. She is also a United Nations Goodwill ambassador. Wassef is an icon in the Arab world and the Middle East. Wassef had become the highest-paid actress in the Arab World since the end of the 1970s until the year 2000; now she is one of the highest-paid actresses. Wassef is the first Syrian woman to receive the Syrian Order of Merit-Excellent Degree in 2009.

Biography

Wassef was married to the late Syrian film Director Muhammad Shahin, and together they formed one of the Arab world's most popular celebrity couples. They have one son
Ammar Abdulhamid, who lives in the United States, Washington, D.C., with his wife Khawla, daughter Oula (b. 1986) and son Mouhanad (b. 1990), both work in the public policy and humanitarian aid fields.

Currently, Wassef divides her time between her artistic career and her interest in issues pertaining to the emancipation of women in the Arab world.

This film is set in 1930a Syria's pre-independence days. Adil (Jihad Sahd) was born into wealth yet empathizes with the poor, renounces his family and joins the "lower orders." He is given a crash course in Syrian customs by the Old Man (Rafik El Soubeil). Adil is awakened sexually by the ingratiating prostitute (Muna Wassef). Adil's father finds his son, is envious of the Old Man's relationship with the boy and he exacts a terrible revenge on the old man by using his money and social position as protection from legal consequences.

This film depends on history trying to give some contemporary interpretations by telling about the struggle over power between the Vizier and the Caliphate. The Vizier is trying to seek help from foreign armies to help him usurp power. One guard takes the chance and delivers his head to the Vizier so as to write a message of help to the enemies. The guard starts his adventure dreaming of wealth and beautiful slave girls. But he discovers too late that the Vizier had asked the enemy to cut the head of the message carrier. So the adventure ends with death.
