Ritva Helinä Arvelo (11 March 1921 – 26 October 2013) was a Finnish actress, director, screenwriter and a pioneer in modern dance.

Arvelo was born in Helsinki. During her career, Arvelo worked for the Finnish National Theatre and appeared in such films as Radio tekee murron (1951), Kilroy sen teki (1957), Rakkauselokuva (1984) and Palava enkeli (1984). In 1961, she became only the fourth Finnish female film director when she directed a film Kultainen vasikka, based on a play by Maria Jotuni. This remains her only directorial effort.

As a screenwriter, Arvelo worked with Matti Kassila on his films Syntipukki (1957) and Kuriton sukupolvi (1957). She also wrote the screenplay for Kultainen vasikka. In 1961, Arvelo was one of the founding members of the modern dance group Praesens.

The ambitious reporter Toivo Teräsvuori is disappointed when ordered to report in an agricultural show in Mäntsälä. Instead, he convinces his superior to let him do a reportage using a hidden microphone to gauge people's reactions on being asked outlandish questions. Things start to go wrong when the police are informed of the apparently incoherent reporter who also appears to be talking to himself, and they come to the conclusion that Teräsvuori must be insane. Despite being committed into a mental asylum, he continues to make light of the situation, only becoming alarmed when the doctors there concur in the verdict regarding his mental health. Faced with the prospect of uncomfortable tests and treatments, he starts looking for a way to escape.

Toivo Teräsvuori (Häyrinen) is a young radio journalist who's looking for new, interesting topics on which to report. After covering a skydive on a live broadcast, he gets the idea to stage a fake burglary for his next daring stunt. He shares this idea with his friend and fellow radio employee Laakso, whom he persuades to go along with the plan without notifying either their superiors in the radio station, nor the police.
