Ronit Elkabetz (Hebrew: רונית אלקבץ, Arabic: رونيت القبص) born 27 November 1964) is an Israeli actress and filmmaker. She works in both Israeli and French cinema. She has won three Ophir Awards and has received a total of seven nominations.
In 2015 she was selected to be the President of the Jury for the International Critics' Week section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Biography
Elkabetz was born in Beersheba in 1964 to a religious Moroccan Jewish family originally from Essaouira. She grew up in Kiryat Yam. Her mother was a hairdresser and her father was a postal employee. Her mother spoke French and Arabic, but her father insisted on speaking only Hebrew. She never studied acting and started her career as a model. She divides her time between her homes in Paris and Tel Aviv. She married architect Avner Yasharon on 25 June 2010.In 2015 she was selected to be the President of the Jury for the International Critics' Week section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

The film explores a troubled marriage that is complicated by the traditions and religious beliefs of the couple who are immigrants to Israel from Morocco. It revolves around the process of Jewish religious divorce which is known as a 'Gett', a process which must be granted by the husband and is sought through the religious court, as opposed to the secular government court. The movie gradually reveals subtle, and sometimes vengeful, nature of marital discontent. The story is told through multiple brief courtroom scenes, over the period of the trial, involving the personalities of all involved, sometimes relegating the litigants to minor roles.

The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra, consisting of eight men, arrive in Israel from Egypt. They have been booked by an Arab cultural center in Petah Tiqva, but through a miscommunication (Arabic has no "p" sound, and regularly replaces it with "b"), the band takes a bus to Bet Hatikva, a fictional town in the middle of the Negev Desert.
