Tony Papenfuss (born March 26, 1950 in Robbinsdale , Minnesota) is an American television and film actor.

Papenfuss is best known for his role as one of the brothers Darryl on Newhart. He was "my brother Darryl", the one with the straighter, darker hair. He reprised this role as a guest-star on an episode of Coach. Before his appearance on Newhart, he also had minor roles in Escape from New York and Firefox.

After Newhart, Papenfuss guest starred on many television shows, including Seinfeld, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Murphy Brown, Roswell, and Providence. He also appeared in several films, including How to Kill a Mockingbird, Factotum, and Sweet Land.

His most recent projects include The Completely Remarkable, Utterly Fabulous Transformation of a Regular Joe and Holiday Beach.

Of his role in Newhart, John Voldstad, who played the other brother who never talked, said he and Papenfuss came up with imaginary scripts that represented what the brothers were thinking. The casting director "knew we could look like we weren't just standing there. We could look like we had something going on in our minds."

After Newhart, Papenfuss toured with his co-stars William Sanderson and Voldstad. Voldstad also continues to act and appear at conventions; he and Papenfuss attended Altoona Day in May 2014. Voldstad said, "I talk to him pretty regularly. Me and Tony are like brothers."

Wisconsin insurance salesman Mickey Prohaska is in desperate financial straits. His wife JoAnn has thrown him out of the house, and he is willing to do or say practically anything to sell anybody a policy. Mickey accompanies another insurance agent he has just met, Bob Egan, to the farm of an elderly man named Gorvy Hauer. The house is a mess and Gorvy is absent-minded, perhaps a tad senile. Father John Buerlein (Jeremy Sisto) is the mild-mannered Catholic priest of a small parish in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Overworked and underpaid, he has grown jaded with the profession and has trouble connecting with his parishioners. During confession, a mysterious and unnamed prostitute (Kristin Chenoweth) confesses to a sin she has not yet committed: she plans to commit suicide on her birthday. Father John is taken aback. The confession ends abruptly, and he is unable to stop the woman before she disappears. He only knows she wears a crucifix and is an Aries, which means her birthday is soon. Father John grows obsessed with finding and helping this woman, and begins visiting the city's red-light district with the hopes of finding her. On his way home, Father John meets a homeless man named Gus (Gene Larche), but with no money for him, he gives him a rosary instead. Later, he seeks counsel from his friend Father Ralph O'Brien (Brian Baumgartner), who advises him not to become too personally involved.

The book and the film both center on the character of Henry Chinaski, Bukowski’s alter ego, who appears in much of his fiction. Although events in the book take place in Los Angeles in the 1940s, the setting of the film is contemporary.
