Savage Messiah (French: Moïse, l’affaire Roch Thériault) is a Canadian drama film, released in 2002. The film dramatizes the real-life story of Roch "Moïse" Thériault, a cult leader who was arrested in Burnt River, Ontario, in 1989.
The film stars Luc Picard as Thériault, and Polly Walker as Paula Jackson, the social worker whose investigation revealed Thériault's crimes. The film's cast also includes Isabelle Blais, Louis Ferreira, Pascale Montpetit, Isabelle Cyr, Robert Higden and Domini Blythe.
The film garnered seven Genie Award nominations at the 23rd Genie Awards. Picard won Best Actor, Montpetit won Best Supporting Actress and screenwriter Sharon Riis won Best Adapted Screenplay. The film was also nominated, but did not win, in the categories of Best Actress (Walker and Blais), Best Cinematography (Serge Ladouceur) and Best Costume Design (Mario D'Avignon). Director Mario Azzopardi was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Direction - Feature Film at the 2003 Director's Guild of Canada awards.
Synopsis
Inspiré d'un fait vécu. Roch Thériault (Luc Picard), le chef d'une étrange commune, vivait avec 2 hommes, ses 10 femmes et ses 23 enfants. Une travailleuse sociale (Polly Walker) devine, malgré les apparences trompeuses, le désespoir des femmes de Thériault lors d'une visite de la commune. Malgré l'indifférence de ses collègues de travail, elle entreprend une enquête qui mène à de terribles découvertes ; un enfant mort, d'étranges rituels ainsi que de graves cas de violence physique et psychologique. Ce faisant, elle met sa carrière et sa vie en jeu. Elle est toutefois prête à surmonter tous les obstacles pour libérer les membres de cette étrange communauté de l'emprise de Thériault. Elle doit également affronter Thériault qui manipule avec une étonnante facilité les gens et le système, y compris les enquêteurs nommés par le tribunal.Actors

In July 1976, Air France flight 139 from Tel Aviv to Paris via Athens was hijacked by four terrorists, two of whom are West Germans named Wilfried Boese (Klaus Kinski) and Halima (Sybil Danning), and the other two are Palestinians. After landing to refuel in Libya, the four hijackers force the plane to take off and to land thousands of miles away at the airport in Entebbe, Uganda, at the invitation of the Ugandan leader Idi Amin (Mark Heath). The two Germans and two Arab hijackers are joined at the Entebbe Airport by at least three more Palestinian terrorists. The Jewish passengers are separated and held hostage in demand to release many terrorists held in Israeli prisons. After much debate, the Israeli government sent an elite commando unit, under the command of Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu (Yehoram Gaon), to raid the airfield and release the hostages. The film is based on fact and follows the events following the flight's takeoff until the hostages' return to Israel.

During World War II, the sailor Anatoly and his captain, Tikhon, are captured by the Nazis when they board their barge and tugboat which is carrying a shipment of coal. The Nazi officer leading the raid offers Anatoly the choice to shoot Tikhon and stay alive which Anatoly reluctantly takes, and Tikhon falls overboard. The Nazis blow up the ship but Anatoly is found by Russian Orthodox monks on the shore the next morning. He survives and becomes a stoker at the monastery but is perpetually overcome with guilt.
