The seven-year-old hero, Nathaniel, is not a confident reader. When his eccentric old aunt Eleanor dies, she leaves her house to his parents and her huge book collection to the young boy. Nathaniel discovers that the books shelter all the heroes found in children's literature. Among them are Alice in Wonderland, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Little Red Riding Hood and they are counting on him for protection: if they leave the library, they will disappear along with their stories forever. L'histoire commence à Naples en 1700. Totò Sapore est un jeune garçon pauvre qui, pour gagner sa vie, chante en s'accompagnant à la guitare. Mais Totò rêve surtout de devenir un grand cuisinier. Un jour, Totò rencontre Polichinelle, qui lui fait présent de quatre pots (Pentolito, Marmittone, Tegamino et Sora Pasta) dotés du pouvoir magique de conférer un goût succulent à tous les mets qui y sont préparés. Grâce à ces outils, Totò entame une carrière de cuisinier qui le conduit à être cuisinier pour le roi de Naples. Là, il affronte la concurrence acharnée du cuisinier français Mestolon, et tombe amoureux d'une jeune fille, Confiance, qui n'est autre que la fille de Mestolon. Totò doit également affronter la concurrence de la Strega Vesuvia et de son complice Vincenzone. Elle hait Totò et tous les Napolitains à cause de leur insupportable bonne humeur, et elle se met en tête de déclencher une guerre entre la France et Naples.

In the coasts of Hamburg in Germany, a petrol ship sinks leaving a lot of petrol in the sea. The next day a seagull flock starts looking for fish in the sea, they dive in and stay there until there leader spots the petrol flood, he warns the rest of the flock, but one of the seagulls named Kengah doesn't hear it and gets dirtied by the petrol. She survives the accident but has trouble with flying. She flies over the city until she falls on a woman's garden, right on top of her cat Zorba. Being disgusted by the petrol taste Zorba refuses to eat her. Kengah asks him three promises that he must do if she doesn't survive. The first one is that when she lays her egg he must not eat it, the second one is that he must take care of it until it hatches, and third is that he would teach the newborn how to fly.

When Santa's helper La Befana falls ill and must take off a Christmas Eve, she recruits Scarafoni to help deliver all the toys. No one but the toys knows is that Scarafoni plans to auction off the toys to the highest bidder, which means the toys won't make it to the children who have been good all year and deserve them. The toys decide to deliver themselves starting with a wind-up teddy bear going to the little boy's bed, and the story follows them as they struggle to avoid the heartless Scarafoni and to find their true homes. Meanwhile, a young boy named Francesco tries to find his true Christmas present - one special friend. In the end, the toys deliver themselves, but Scarafoni still has the money. However, everyone rushes to the toy shop and find Scarafoni with the money and manage to get it back from him, as Scarafoni is sent to prison. Francesco gets his true friend - a new puppy whose name is Jingles.
