Add to a movie list12 is a 2007 crime film by Russian director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov. Mikhalkov was awarded the Special Lion at the 64th Venice International Film Festival for his work on the film, which also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. It is an adaptation of Reginald Rose's play Twelve Angry Men and a remake of Sidney Lumet's film 12 Angry Men.
Synopsis
The jury decides whether a young Chechen boy is guilty of the murder of his stepfather, a Russian military officer. Initially it seems that the boy was the murderer. However, one of the jurors (Sergei Makovetsky) votes in favour of acquittal. Since the verdict must be rendered unanimously, the jurors review the case, and one by one come to the conclusion that the boy was framed. The murder was performed by criminals involved in the construction business. The discussion is repeatedly interrupted by flashbacks from the boy's wartime childhood.Actors

The film begins in June 1941. Five years have passed since the lives and destinies of Colonel Sergei Petrovich Kotov, his wife Maroussia, their daughter Nadia, as well as those of Mitya and the Sverbitski family, were irrevocably changed: it has meant five years of incarceration for General Kotov (Nikita Mikhalkov), the former Revolutionary hero betrayed by Stalin. He escapes certain death in the Gulag and fights on the Eastern Front as a private.

Jane Callahan (Julia Ormond), a beautiful American lady, writes to her son, a cadet at a famous military academy, about a long kept secret. Twenty years ago she arrived in Russia to assist Douglas McCracken (Richard Harris), an obsessive engineer who needs the Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich's patronage to sponsor his invention, a massive machine to harvest the forests. On her travels, she meets two men who would change her life forever: a handsome young cadet Andrej Tolstoy (Oleg Menshikov) with whom she shares a fondness for opera, and the powerful General Radlov who is entranced by her beauty and wants to marry her. Tolstoy and Radlov, much to the surprise and indignation of the latter, become rivals for Jane's love. She confides a deep secret to Tolstoy, promises to marry him, and together they spend a passionate night of love. But later he overhears Jane denying her interest in him to the General, in order to win the general's favour and be granted an audience with the Grand Duke. Distraught, Tolstoy attacks the General who arrests his young rival on false charges and banishes him to Siberia to seven years of hard labor and five years of isolation.

The Soviet Union, summer 1936. Comdiv Sergei Petrovich Kotov, his wife Maroussia (Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė), and their young daughter Nadia are relaxing in a banya, when they are suddenly interrupted. A peasant from the local collective farm explains that the Soviet Army's tanks are about to crush the wheat harvest as part of general maneuvers. Although annoyed to be bothered during his vacation, Kotov rides on horseback to where the tank crews are confronting outraged peasants.

Dans une ville fictive de Briakhimov, sur les bords de la Volga, Kharita Ogoudalova, une veuve de souche noble ruinée, est sur le point de marier sa seconde fille Olga, à un prince de Tiflis. Sa fille ainée, Anna, déjà mariée vit à Monte-Carlo. Il lui reste à trouver un bon parti pour sa cadette, Larissa. Plusieurs prétendants se disputent ses faveurs, mais aucun ne présente un réel intérêt en vue d'un mariage. Un ami d'enfance, Vassili Vozhevatov bien que nourrissant les sentiments pour Larissa n'arrive pas à se décider à épouser une jeune fille sans dot. Son rival en amour Moki Knourov, est richissime mais déjà marié. Larissa quant à elle, est éprise d'un grand séducteur Sergueï Paratov, qui acculé à la faillite quitte la ville le temps d'arranger ses affaires comme il dit. Ne le voyant pas réapparaitre, désespérée, la jeune femme accepte la demande en mariage d'un modeste fonctionnaire, Youli Karandychev qui l'aime certes, mais l'agace avec sa petitesse d'esprit. Karandychev triomphant ainsi sur les autres de façon si parfaite tient aussitôt à donner un banquet pour marquer le coup, malgré les protestations de Larissa. Tous se retrouvent devant le pauvre buffet, y compris Paratov qui rentre de son expédition. La fête vire au désastre quand l'heureux fiancé se soule non sans l'aide d'un valet engagé par Paratov qui entre-temps réussit à convaincre Larissa de partir avec lui. Lorsque Karandychev sort pour chercher encore quelques bouteilles, tous s'enfuient pour se retrouver sur le bateau Lastotchka que Paratov vient de céder à Knourov pour des raisons financières. La joie de Larissa est de courte durée - son amoureux, après une nuit passée en sa compagnie, lui avoue être fiancée à une autre. Son désengagement fait reprendre l'espoir à Knourov et Vozhevatov, qui pour se départager la belle jouent à pile ou face. Knourov qui remporte propose à Larissa de lui accorder une pension somptueuse, qui ferait taire toutes les mauvaises langues, pour devenir sa maîtresse. À ce moment Karandychev rattrape le bateau et exige que Larissa reparte avec lui, mais elle trouve encore moins déshonorant d'accepter la proposition de Knouvor. Sur quoi le fiancé éconduit lui lance, «alors, tu n'appartiendras à personne», et la tue d'un coup de pistolet.

A Mongolian shepherd Gombo lives in a yurt in Inner Mongolia with his wife, three children, and mother. They are portrayed as unsophisticated and traditional and Gombo desires relations with his wife, to try for a fourth child, which puts his wife at unease due to Chinese law. Intoxicated Russian buffoonish truck driver Sergei has stranded himself, driving his truck into a river and is picked up by Gombo, taken to his family's yurt, to join him in dinner. Gombo's family are particularly taken with Sergei's back tattoos, later revealed to be sheet music for "On the Hills of Manchuria". Gombo and Sergei become mutual dependencies despite their language and cultural differences. Gombo and Sergei go into the nearest city together, where Gombo is supposed to buy contraceptives (condoms), buying a television set and other goods, but not contraceptives due to drugstore staff being women. Sergei, a former army bandsman, becomes drunk and sings "On the Hills of Manchuria" in a nightclub, with the band playing from his back tattoos. He is arrested and bailed out of jail by Gombo.
