The film is widely recognised because of the soundtrack composed, produced, arranged, and played by Brian Jones (founder of the Rolling Stones), Pallenberg's boyfriend at the time. The film was entered into the 1967 Cannes Film Festival.
It was filmed in colour in West Germany in 1967.
Synopsis
Marie (Anita Pallenberg) shoots her ex-boyfriend with his own gun, after he attempts to beat her. Instead of reporting this to the police she hires two men to help her dump the body in a construction site near an autobahn. While doing this she becomes romantically involved with both men.Actors

The title character is an innocent housekeeper whose life is ruined by an invasive tabloid reporter and a police investigation when the man with whom she has just fallen in love turns out to be a radical bank robber. The film, unlike the novel, ends with a scene at Tötges' funeral, with his publisher delivering a hypocritical condemnation of the murder as an infringement on the freedom of the press.

Willy Loman (Dustin Hoffman) returns home exhausted after a canceled business trip. Worried over Willy's state of mind and recent car crash, his wife Linda (Kate Reid) suggests that he ask his boss Howard Wagner (Jon Polito) to allow him to work in his home city so he will not have to travel. Abel Tiffauges (Malkovich) is a simple Frenchman at the start of World War II, who loves animals and children. The first part of the film recalls his childhood at a Catholic school for boys, in where he wishes to Saint Christopher that the school, which he sees as a prison, is burned down. By irony of fate, while Abel is being disciplined for spilling lamp oil on the chapel floor, his friend Nestor accidentally sets fire to the building, burning it down as he wished. From that day on, Abel is convinced that fate is on his side, and that it will protect him from anything.

In April 1957, engineer Walter Faber (Sam Shepard) is waiting to board a flight from Caracas, Venezuela to New York City when he meets a German, Herbert Hencke (Dieter Kirchlechner), who reminds him of an old friend. Before takeoff, Walter decides not to board the airplane, but when a flight attendant discovers him still in the terminal, she escorts him aboard. In the near future war rages across the fictional Republic of Gilead and pollution has rendered 99% of the population sterile. Kate is a woman attempting to emigrate to Canada with her husband and daughter. While attempting to take a dirt road, they are caught by the Gilead Border Guard, who orders them to turn back or they will open fire. Kate's husband uses an automatic rifle to draw the fire, telling Kate to run, but he gets shot, Kate gets captured, whilst their daughter wanders off into the backcountry confused and unaccompanied. The authorities take Kate to a training facility with several other women, where they are all trained to become a Handmaid, a concubine for one of the privileged but barren couples who rule the country's religious fundamentalist regime. Although she resists being indoctrinated into the cult of the Handmaids, mixing Old Testament orthodoxy and misogyny with 12-step gospel and ritualized violence, Kate is soon assigned to the home of the Commander and his cold, inflexible wife, Serena Joy. There she is renamed "Offred" - "of Fred".

À la suite d'une rixe, Charlie, un noir, s'enfuit poursuivi par Beau Boutan, un fermier blanc, qui armé d'un fusil veut « lui faire la peau ». Après avoir tenté de lui échapper à travers les plantations de canne à sucre de la famille Marshall, Charlie se réfugie chez Mathu, un fermier noir. Un coup de feu claque et le poursuivant est abattu devant la porte de la masure où le poursuivi s'est précipité. Candy qui habite dans la riche demeure de son oncle Jack Marshall et de sa tante Bea Marshall depuis qu'elle a perdu ses parents, entend le coup de feu et se rend immédiatement sur place pour en comprendre l'origine. Elle arrive chez Mathu qui prostré ne répond pas à ses questions mais elle n'a aucun mal à comprendre ce qui s'est passé. Très attachée à ce fermier qui, pendant son enfance, a été un substitut paternel elle organise sa protection pour éviter à son ami d'être lynché par la famille Boutan et leurs complices ou amis blancs. Avec l'aide de Miss Merle qui, pour elle, a joué le rôle de substitut maternel et celle de Snookum, un gamin déluré, elle rassemble 18 noirs qui, armés de fusils viennent faire bloc à ses côtés.

Automne allemand 1977, la Fraction armée rouge (RAF) terrorise la République fédérale d’Allemagne pour libérer ses figures historiques. Deux célébrations de funérailles à deux jours d'intervalle à Stuttgart ponctuent le récit. La première est l'enterrement du patron des patrons, exécuté par les terroristes de la RAF après la nuit de la mort de leurs leaders retrouvés suicidés dans leurs cellules de Stammheim quelques heures après l'annonce de la libération des otages du détournement du Landshut. La seconde est l'enterrement des suicidés de Stammheim sous haute surveillance policière. Dix réalisateurs du nouveau cinéma allemand témoignent de cette accélération des événements en mettant en scène des fictions et courts documentaires historiques pour restituer le climat de terreur quotidienne inspirée par la RAF tout en s'interrogeant sur la pression étatique nécessaire à la traque de terroristes dans un pays démocratique.
