Leonardo stars as Arturo, a writer of children's books and Yamila stars as Matilde, the woman he falls in love with.
The film is based upon Pieraccioni's experiences after talking to Lo Stronzo, an old retired fisherman.
Synopsis
In Florence, the young carpenter Arturo dreams of becoming a great writer. In fact he has the talent to be able to write fantasy stories for children, and so he is snubbed by Italian critics. However Arturo does not give up, and sends the proofs to a famous Florentine editor. Meanwhile, the family of Arturo is broke because his uncle is gone bankrupt with an useless shop. But fame for Arturo arrives early, because the publisher remains excited about the fantastic stories, and so the book is published with the title: "The fish in love". Arturo starts to know celebrity and wealth, but soon gets bored, because he feels himself suffocated by the fame. Indeed Arturo falls in love with beautiful Matilda, promised in marriage to a pompous man of Bergamo. With her, Arturo flees into a house in the woods, and plans a new life, just like in the fairy tales.Actors

Leopoldo (Leonardo Pieraccioni) is a separate teacher and comes to know his father's death. Once arrived at the morgue, however, the parent wakes up and says he just wants to pretend to be dead to escape from their creditors. The story begins in 1860 in Basin Field, a small (fictional) village on the slopes of the great mountains that border Canada in the "Far West." The film depicts the idealistic lifestyle of an old West farmer, his Indian wife and half-breed son, who narrates the tale. The main character is "Doc" (Pieraccioni), the village doctor, his Indian wife Pearl (Holt) and their son Jeremiah. Their idyllic life is disrupted when his grandfather, an old gunslinger, shows up on the farm. Doc's father Johnny Lowen (Keitel), a famous gunfighter, suddenly returns. Johnny says he has returned home to find rest and to finally retire. The family is not happy with his return, given his past lifestyle and mistreatment of his family.
