Synopsis
Horace Parker, un jeune et riche égoïste, a accepté de financer un système de communication avec Mars à condition d'être crédité comme son inventeur. Un soir, il reste chez lui pour en étudier les plans plutôt que d'aller à une soirée avec Minnie, sa fiancée. Comme il s'endort, un personnage lui apparaît, qui se présente comme un messager en provenance de Mars, dont la mission est de convertir l'homme le plus égoïste de la Terre. Il montre à Horace la pauvreté qui règne dans les rues et lui fait entendre les reproches de Minnie à son sujet. Emmené chez un soldat dont il a refusé d'aider la femme, il se réveille pour découvrir leur maison en feu, et sauve alors la femme. Il invite ensuite d'autres infortunés chez lui, et regagne ainsi l'estime de Minnie.Actors

Jack Craigen, un ingénieur, revient à New York après avoir travaillé en Afrique du Sud. Chez son oncle Cannell, il rencontre Helen Steele et son fiancé Tracey, un auteur de théâtre. Lord Woodstock perd de l'argent en finançant une revue avec en vedette la danseuse Olive Carteret. Il tue Olive mais arrive trop tard pour empêcher Phillips d'enlever Norah. Lee et Woodstock sont mis en prison alors qu'ils essayent de sauver Norah. Lee est tué, mais Woodstock s'échappe, Lady Luck gagne la course, Phillips est arrêté pour meurtre, Norah et Woodstock sont libres et peuvent se marier.

Frank and Faye Riley (Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy), an elderly couple who run an apartment building and café in the run-down East Village neighborhood, come under threat by a nearby property development. During World War I, Franz Strendler, a master German spy has cost the British dearly. In desperation, they send for their best agent, currently undercover in Germany. Pilot Frank Bennett (Bruce Lester) is sent to pick him up, but the Germans are forewarned and Bennett is shot down. Luckily, he survives and is rescued by friendly soldiers. While recovering in a hospital, Bennett is tended by a pretty nurse, Helene Von Lorbeer (Margaret Lindsay). Set in Germany sometime in the late 18th century where Mytyl (Shirley Temple), the bratty daughter of a woodcutter (Russell Hicks), finds a unique bird in the Royal Forest and selfishly refuses to give it to her sick friend. Mother and Father are mortified at Mytyl's behavior. That evening, Father is called on to report for duty the next morning in an unspecified war. That same night, Mytyl is visited in a dream by a fairy named Berylune (Jessie Ralph) who sends her and her brother Tyltyl (Johnny Russell) to search for the Blue Bird of Happiness. To accompany them, the fairy magically transforms their dog Tylo (Eddie Collins), cat Tylette (Gale Sondergaard), and lantern ("Light") into human form. The children have a number of adventures, visiting the past and their dead grandparents who come to life because they are being remembered, a scary adventure in the forest, the life of luxury, and the future, a land of yet-to-be born children. The dream journey makes Mytyl awake as a kinder and gentler girl who has learned to appreciate all the comforts and joys of her home and family. In the morning, the Father receives word that a truce has been called and he does not have to go to war.

Seeking background material for a mystery he is working on, novelist Charles Condomine (Harrison) invites eccentric medium Madame Arcati (Rutherford) to his home in Lympne, Kent, to conduct a séance. As Charles, his wife Ruth (Cummings), and their guests the Bradmans barely restrain themselves from laughing, Madame Arcati performs peculiar rituals and finally goes into a trance.
