Add to a movie listBritish Intelligence is a 1940 spy film set in World War I. It was directed by Terry O. Morse and starred Boris Karloff and Margaret Lindsay. The film, also known as Enemy Agent, was released in the United States in January 1940. The Warner Bros. B picture was based on a 1918 play Three Faces East written by Anthony Paul Kelly and produced on the stage by George M. Cohan. Two film adaptations of Three Faces East in 1926 and 1930 preceded British Intelligence.
Synopsis
During World War I, Franz Strendler, a master German spy has cost the British dearly. In desperation, they send for their best agent, currently undercover in Germany. Pilot Frank Bennett (Bruce Lester) is sent to pick him up, but the Germans are forewarned and Bennett is shot down. Luckily, he survives and is rescued by friendly soldiers. While recovering in a hospital, Bennett is tended by a pretty nurse, Helene Von Lorbeer (Margaret Lindsay). He tells her he loves her, but she informs him she is leaving, and they will not see each other again. However, after Bennett falls asleep, she kisses him on the cheek.Actors

It is prior to the commencement of World War II, and Japan's fiendish Black Dragon Society is hatching an evil plot with the Nazis. They instruct a brilliant scientist, Dr. Melcher, to travel to Japan on a secret mission. There he operates on six Japanese conspirators, transforming them to resemble six American leaders. Benny Horowitz (John Gilbert), a reformed gangster, proposes marriage to Bertha (Carmel Myers), a neighbor who had been a frequent visitor while he served his sentence. Il s'agit du second opus de la série de longs métrages de Mr Wong avec Boris Karloff, dans le rôle du détective chinois. Le richissime collectionneur de pierres précieuses Brandon Edwards confie à Wong avoir pris possession du plus grand saphir étoilé du monde, "l'Œil de la Fille de la Lune", après qu'il eut été volé en Chine, il lui confie par cette occasion que sa vie est en danger. Au cours d'une réception mondaine, Edwards est mystérieusement abattu pendant un jeu de rôle tandis que le saphir disparaît. A l'insu de Wong, le bijou est dérobé par la femme de chambre d'Edwards, Drina, qui a l'intention de le rapatrier en Chine, mais celle-ci ne tarde pas à être assassinée à son tour. La liste des suspects est longue et les mobiles du crime ne manquent pas, d'autant que plusieurs personnages ambigus convoitaient Valérie Edwards en raison de son physique et de sa fortune. Wong aura du mal a confondre le coupable, mais il parviendra après avoir réuni chez lui tous les suspects.
