Synopsis
The film tells the story of Sonia (Zellweger), a young Brooklyn woman who has just given birth to her first child. She is married, through an arranged marriage, to Mendel (Glenn Fitzgerald), a devout Hasidic Jew who is too immersed in his studies to give his wife the attention she craves. As a result, Sonia develops a relationship with Mendel's brother, the jeweler Sender (Eccleston), who brings her into the business. Sender is the only release for Sonia's repressed sexuality, and he takes full advantage of that fact as often as he can, but she is repelled by his utter lack of morals as she finds balance between what she feels and what she has been taught is "sinful". The jewelery business brings her into close contact with the young Puerto Rican artist and jewelery designer Ramon (Payne), but when Sender finds out about their connection he reveals it to the family, and Sonia is divorced and ostracized. The film ends on a more tolerance-friendly note, with Sonia balancing desire and every day life, and Mendel accepting her differences with a blessing and the promise to restore custody of their son.Actors

Ezra (Sohrab Modi) is a jeweller who has a son called Elijah. He also has a friendly butler/child minder called Emmanuel. In the beginning, Ezra is due to leave. As he does, Elijah becomes upset and stands at the balcony. In the roads of the Jewish area, Brutus (Nazir Hussain), Governor of Rome, is passing, making an announcement. Watching over the balcony, is Elijah. A stone slips from his hand and hits Brutus on the head. Brutus immediately gets Elijah arrested, and as Elijah is a Jew, sentences him to death. Hearing this, Ezra rapidly returns from his trip and arrives at the doorstep of Brutus. He begs Brutus to free Elijah but Brutus feeds Elijah to hungry lions. Ezra sadly returns to his house. In revenge, Emmanuel kidnaps Lydia, motherless daughter of Brutus, and takes her to Ezra. Ezra declines to kill Lydia and adopts the child.

Le film raconte l’histoire d'Olga Benário Prestes (Camila Morgado). Née à Munich en Allemagne en 1908 de parents juifs. Olga devient une militante communiste. Après avoir libéré son amoureux Otto Braun de prison, ils sont forcés de fuir vers l’Union soviétique, pays dans lequel ils reçoivent un entraînement de guérilla. Olga se distingue très vite parmi les membres du Parti communiste de l'Union soviétique où elle connaît Luís Carlos Prestes (Caco Ciocler), qui deviendra l’un des principaux chefs communistes du Brésil. En 1934, quand Luís Carlos Prestes retourne au Brésil, désigné par l'Internacional Communista (le Mouvement communiste international) pour diriger une révolution armée, Olga est désignée pour l’escorter. Bien sûr, pour survivre, ils doivent se cacher et vivre en clandestins tout en s’organisant pour déstabiliser le gouvernement de Getúlio Vargas (Osmar Prado). Pendant cette période, la relation amoureuse entre Olga et Prestes s’affirme et elle tombe enceinte en 1935.
