Boaz Yakin (born June 20, 1966) is an American screenwriter and film director based in New York City. He has written such screenplays as Fresh and A Price Above Rubies, and he directed the feature film Remember the Titans, among others.

Biography

Boaz Yakin nait à New York et grandit dans l'Upper West Side. Né de parents israéliens, il y fréquente une école juive orthodoxe.

Il étudie ensuite au City College of New York et à l'Université de New York. C'est alors qu'il écrit et vend son premier script intitulé Cold fire. Pour vraiment lancer sa carrière cinématographique, il quitte la côte est et emménage à Los Angeles. Boaz travaille ensuite sur plusieurs scénarios notamment pour le compte de Warner Bros. et United Artists.

En 1989, il se fait réellement connaître à Hollywood en écrivant le scénario de Punisher, film à moyen budget avec Dolph Lundgren dans le rôle-titre, adapté du comic de Marvel. Il enchaine l'année suivante avec un autre film d'action, La Relève, de et avec Clint Eastwood. En 1994, il fait ses débuts de réalisateur avec Fresh, un drame sur un garçon de 12 ans transportant de la drogue. Samuel L. Jackson joue le père du jeune garçon. Ce premier film est saluée par la critique et remporte un prix au Festival du film de Sundance.

En 1998, il met en scène son second film, Sonia Horowitz, l'insoumise. Il replonge ici dans ses racines : dans le film Renée Zellweger essaye de s'intégrer dans une communauté hassidique. En 2000, il réalise Le Plus Beau des combats avec Denzel Washington, mais ne participe pas à l'écriture du scénario. Ce film sur le racisme sur fond de football américain lui vaut son plus grand succès public à ce jour : près de 137 millions de dollars de recettes dans le monde.

En 2003, il dirige la comédie Filles de bonne famille, avec Brittany Murphy et Dakota Fanning. Il attendra 5 ans pour réaliser un nouveau film : Death in Love (2008), film dramatique sur une histoire d'amour entre une femme juive et un ancien nazi. En parallèle, il continue d'écrire des scripts (Dirty Dancing 2, Prince of Persia : Les Sables du temps). Il produit également les films 2001 Maniacs, Hostel et Hostel, chapitre II, via la société Raw Nerve, créée avec les réalisateurs Eli Roth et Scott Spiegel.

En 2012, il est de retour à la réalisation et au film d'action Safe, avec Jason Statham.

Jacob, douze ans, souffre de terreurs nocturnes et de troubles du comportement. Suite au décès de sa grand-mère qu'il n'a jamais connue, il devient fasciné par sa présence et son passé tragique. Leur éducation est basée sur l'étude de la Bible mais rapidement, Jacob découvre que l'internat cache de lourds secrets lorsque Fréderic est retrouvé mort dans la salle d'eau. Alors qu'il tente de s'évader, il est aussitôt ramené dans le bâtiment où il découvre que le Dr Sherman, secondé par sa femme, est chargé de faire disparaître des enfants pour le compte de leurs propres parents.

The film tells the story of Sonia (Zellweger), a young Brooklyn woman who has just given birth to her first child. Four gifted street magicians—J. In the royal city of Nasaf, the king Sharaman rules the nation of Persia with the help of his brother Nizam. The king goes on to have two sons named Tus and Garsiv. One day in the marketplace, an orphan boy named Dastan protects his friend, Bis, from being executed by Persian soldiers. The king sees Dastan's bravery and adopts him, making him a prince of Persia. Years later, Dastan is a grown man and is still up to his rebellious ways. However, he remains faithful to the empire. When Nizam receives proof that the city of Alamut is supplying weapons to Persian enemies, he and Tus plan to attack with Garsiv leading the siege. Ignoring Tus’ command, Dastan and Bis breech Alamut on their own, and destroy most of the city. Meanwhile, the princess of Alamut, Tamina, orders her servant Asoka to take a special dagger out of the city and protect it at all costs. During the battle, Dastan and Asoka cross paths and fight; Dastan ultimately wins. He then finds the dagger and keeps it.
