Vincent Floyd, a seeming lazy figure lounging around London Gentlemen's Clubs is in fact a secret agent hot on the trail of Michael Marlowe whom he suspects of smuggling drugs into Britain from France on a regular basis. Guillaume Dodut, chef de gare de Puget-sur-Var, rêve depuis vingt ans d'aller à Biarritz avec sa femme et son fils. Il apprend que l'arrêt du train de voyageurs va être supprimé. Il se souvient alors que même le "Côte d'Argent" qui venait de Paris s'arrêtait dans sa gare, que son fils se plantait devant un très beau wagon et lui disait "en voiture pour Biarritz". Charles a maintenant 25 ans et a terminé ses études d'ingénieur par un stage à Londres. Il va retrouver la gare paternelle classée en seconde catégorie. Après un voyage éclair à Londres où il ne peut même pas voir son fils, Guillaume Dodut apprend à son retour qu'il arrive le lendemain. La petite Thérèse, qui travaille au guichet, sera même invitée à la table familiale, car Guillaume Dodut souhaite que son fils épouse la "petite". Mais Charles Dodut a d'autres projets en tête et met la petite gare en émoi lorsqu'il annonce qu'il va habiter à Londres et qu'il compte épouser la fille de son patron. Le soleil de Provence, le sourire de Thérèse et la peine du père auront vite raison de cette fragile décision ; après tout, entre Toulon et Fréjus, on doit manquer d'ingénieurs et peut-être que le voyage de noces, on le fera tous à Biarritz, pense Guillaume Dodut qui a retrouvé le sourire.

During the Japanese invasion of Burma in 1942, a seven-strong British sonic warfare (sonic deception) patrol takes refuge in a dilapidated hut at an abandoned tin mine in the Burmese jungle. Tension rises as they lose radio contact with their command force but learn the Japanese are nearby. The plot thickens when a lone Japanese scout stumbles across the hut, and his fate becomes the squad's second dilemma. Sergeant Mitchem, the man in command of the patrol, wants to take the prisoner back to headquarters for interrogation. But as the men argue the prisoner's destiny, tempers flare. Sergeant Mitchem clashes with his contemptuous second-in-command Corporal Johnstone and struggles to maintain discipline among his mutinous charges. The chief culprit is the gruff Private Bamforth, a man who dislikes both authority and the army but gradually becomes the conscience of the detachment.
