It was the first and only film directed by Rosso, who had previously been assistant of a number of directors, notably Pietro Germi. The film was remade in 1969 by Antonio Margheriti as And God Said to Cain; despite being the same story and having the main characters sharing the same names, the two films list different screenwriters. The film underperformed at the Italian box office, grossing only 34 millions lire.
Synopsis
En sortant de prison Gary voudrait se rendre à Paso Bravo pour comprendre pourquoi sa femme et ses deux filles ont péries dans l'incendie de son ranch . Il commence son voyage à pied et dans le désert rencontre un marchand ambulant qui exploite les voyageurs . The bandit Sancho kills the wife of Johnny Ashley, and because he cannot have a child of his own he abducts Johnny’s son Jerry to raise him as his own. Jerry grows up to become an evil man who kills his fiancée Sybil when she threatens to disclose his plans for a robbery. Johnny keeps searching to find his son and avenge his wife. He crosses paths with Jerry and in turn they save the other man’s life. Eventually Johnny confronts and kills Sancho. He learns about Jerry from Sancho’s wife. When the son comes to avenge his ”father,” Johnny tries to disarm him, but Jerry is accidentally killed without learning the truth.

Lors de la révolution mexicaine, des cargaisons d'armes militaires sont pillées par des trafiquants américains qui les revendent aux révolutionnaires, dirigés par Vilar.
