The film stars Rakesh Roshan, Rishi Kapoor, Pran, Ashok Kumar, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Deven Verma, Hrithik Roshan, Keshto Mukherjee and Poonam Dhillon. Jeetendra has a guest appearance. The film's music is by the producer's brother Rajesh Roshan. The lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi.
The film is Rakesh Roshan's first attempt at production, going forward he produced and directed films. Rishi Kapoor and Jeetendra being off screen friends of his, he had a song put in to ensure the 3 get together on screen too as Jeetendra did not have a role in the film and is present only in the song.
Rakesh Roshan's son Hrithik Roshan, who was six years old at the time of filming, appears briefly in Aap Ke Deewane as the child-version of the character otherwise played by his father, sharing his tricycle with another child on a beach.

The Rai family consists of four: father, mother, Shanti, and two sons, Ajay and Vijay. While traveling on a ship, they run into a severe storm, which leads to the ship capsizing, and the family getting separated. While Ajay and his mother are together, Rai is separate, and so is Vijay. Then there is Vijay, who is now known as Vikram, who works for Sheetal Khanna, and hopes to marry her one day, but has an affair with a gorgeous woman named Mala. When Mala gets pregnant, Vikram refuses to marry her, and an argument ensues. Shortly thereafter Mala is killed, and Vikram is being blackmailed by a man named Prem, who claims he saw Vikram kill her. When Vikram and Prem find out that Sheetal may marry Ajay, they get together and plot against him - and Ajay's lies, and a dual life, make it easy for them to frame him.

Dr. Deepak lives with his wealthy father, a Thakur, in a small town in India. While the Thakur would like to get Deepak to marry a woman from an equally wealthy family, he has fallen in love with a poor woman named Asha, and would like to marry her. Pratap is perturbed by this doctor, who seems to know him very well, and wants him to leave his job at the chemical company, and start practicing medicine in the small town where they live. What Pratap does not know that this doctor is none other than his biological father, Deepak. Nisha (Smita Patil) is an orphaned child who has been adopted by her relatives and raised alongside her cousin, Indu (Tina Munim). As both cousins enter their 20s, Indu falls in love with the rich and good-looking Kabir (Rakesh Roshan).
