Aashayein (Hopes) is a 2010 Hindi film written and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, and produced by Percept Picture Company and T-Series. It stars John Abraham and Sonal Sehgal in the lead roles.

Synopsis

Rahul Sharma (John Abraham) is a compulsive gambler and while betting, wins 30 million rupees. That night he asks his girlfriend, Nafisa (Sonal Sehgal), to marry him and she agrees. Right after proposing Rahul collapses. The next day he goes to the doctor for a medical test and finds out that he has cancer. Rahul does not know how to handle this situation, in the middle of the night runs down a street screaming, knowing that he only has months to live. Later, Rahul finds a rehabilitation centre for persons with such incurable diseases. Rahul runs away from his fiancee, leaving back most of the money he earned, for her.

Akbar (Dileep) is happily married to Raziya (Meera Jasmine). Akbar goes to the Persian Gulf for employment. There he befriends Raghu Rama Iyer (Vineeth) and John Kuruvilla (Biju Menon). The three become firm friends. Akbar loans some money to another Indian called Haneefa working with them. Haneefa absconds with the money and all efforts to get back the money goes in vain. Three men are on death row. Jaggu (Jackie Shroff), a lawyer and a poet, is serving a sentence for murdering his wife because she was cheating on him with another man. Nagya (Nagesh Kukunoor), a man angry with the whole world, is arrested for murdering his wife too, but he claims that it was an accident where she falls off the sidewalk while they were in the middle of a heated argument. Ishaan (Naseeruddin Shah), a happy-go-lucky man, is also arrested for murder that he commits while in the act of robbery. The prison's custodian is Mohan (Gulshan Grover), who attempts several methods to reform the prison's inmates. A documentary filmmaker, Chandrika (Juhi Chawla) comes to the jail to set a film about these three men. In the process, she finds redemption to her troubled marriage.
