Synopsis
The film opens with Mary Walsh (Murphy) who is a banker delivering her boyfriend, Kevin Peterson (Cain), to a hospital for a routine outpatient surgery. A nurse tells her the surgery will be exactly one hour. When she returns to take Kevin home, she discovers that he has mysteriously disappeared. An administrator (Rogers) can find no record of Kevin, and when Mary contacts the police, Detective Franklin arrives and initiates a search for Kevin but finds no evidence that Kevin was ever in the facility.Actors

In the 1950s Dorothy Nelson (Brittany Murphy) joins the United States Navy where she meets the Friends of Dorothy, a code name for a group of gay and lesbian sailors. Nelson meets Billy (Jason Priestley), who takes her to an interracial nightclub that tolerates gay people. However, the NCIS raids the nightclub, and Nelson is among those servicemembers who receive a Section 8 discharge for "sexual perversion." Returning to Homer, she tries to restart her life as a public school teacher, but her Section 8 discharge prevents her from getting a job. When her homosexuality becomes public knowledge, her mother expels her from the house, forcing her to seek shelter at a family friend's grocery store. However, the townspeople disapprove of this arrangement, and Nelson becomes homeless. An independent-minded woman named Janet (Helen Shaver) at the local diner defends her against the verbal harassment and advises Nelson to go to the bohemian Greenwich Village, the only place where she might be free to be herself.

Regina, a death row prisoner, raises questions about her guilt when she recalls the murder of her husband, James, through a series of confessions and flashbacks. Colin, a prison guard, with a media interest, is intrigued by the beautiful Regina and her story. Colin questions Regina about her late husband's murder and receives conflicting answers, raising questions over the cause of James' death and whether or not Regina had intended to kill him. It also becomes clear to Colin that, during James and Regina's marriage, the former became possessive and abusive, struggling to deal with an earlier relationship of Regina's that she could not forget.

After stealing diamonds in a robbery, diamond thief Frank Warren is betrayed by his best friend Sam and his fiancée Noelle, who turns him into the authorities. Magazine reporter Jonathan Fisher (Christopher Reeve), in danger of losing his job, promises to write a hard-hitting story on prostitution.
