The film stars Louis Koo as Inspector Goole (renamed "Inspector Karl") (Pronounced Jia 贾 in Chinese, which is a homophone for 假, which means fake, or false), Eric Tsang as Arthur Birling (renamed "Kau Ming"), Teresa Mo as Sybil Birling (renamed "Anson Kau"), Hans Zhang as Gerald Croft (renamed "Johnnie Kei"), Gordon Lam as Eric Birling (renamed "Tim Kau"), Chrissie Chau as Eva Smith (though the character goes by various names), Karena Ng as Sheila Birling (renamed "Sherry Kau") and Law Lan as Edna (though unnamed in the film). In adapting the play for a Chinese audience, the film incorporates wacky, slapstick elements while retaining the original's criticism of social elites.
Synopsis
Un inspecteur de police fait une apparition surprise lors de la somptueuse fête que donne une famille de notables. Il est là pour enquêter sur le suicide d'une jeune fille enceinte. Cela rompt la joie et la paix de la soirée destinée à célébrer l'engagement d'un couple. Chacun prétend qu'il ne connaît pas la jeune fille. Sur le marché de la drogue de Hong Kong, le revendeur Jizo (Louis Koo) commence progressivement une collaboration avec certains seigneurs de la drogue mexicains de l’autre côté de la frontière. De son côté, Yu Shun-tin (Andy Lau), un ancien membre des triades devenu philanthrope et magnat de la finance, qui fut témoin de la consommation de drogue de son père pendant son enfance et dont le fils est mort du même fléau, abhorre la drogue qu'il considère comme le mal absolu. Par conséquent, il offre une prime de 100 millions HK$ pour éliminer le principal trafiquant de drogue de Hong Kong, ce qui provoque une agitation dans la société. Princess Pearl of Flowerland is sent to Midland at a young age to learn her ceremonials duties. Her mother, the Queen Mother misses her daughter very much that the King orders his sister, the princess, to return home. However, the princess has fallen in love with General Wing of the Midland army and is reluctant to part from him. As their boat approaches the Flowerland border, Pearl and Wing save the life of a girl named Ying, who threw herself into the sea in order to escape an arranged marriage. As the boat arrives on shore, General Wing and his troops along with Pearl continue on their journey, leaving the still unconscious Ying on the boat. Shortly thereafter, they are attacked by pirates and Pearl falls into the ocean in the ensuing chaos. Princess Pearl washes ashore within the Flowerland kingdom and is saved by a man named Million, who is revealed to be Ying's father.

The film consists of three loosely connected segments based on the central theme of a mortuary. Mortician Shishedo is grief-stricken when his favourite pop star, Lam Wing-si, is killed in a car accident. Lam's face was badly marred and Shishedo takes her place in the coffin by disguising himself as the deceased singer. He disappears and leaves his colleagues to deal with the ghostly aftermath. In the next segment, Gigi wants a memorial service for her late mother, who had hanged herself. The ghost of Gigi's mother is displeased when the greedy morticians try to trick her daughter into using their services, and she haunts them. The last segment involves a mortician named Hung, who commits suicide after her boyfriend dumps her because of her job. In 1949, Ip Man, who has been suffering from chronic gastric pain, travels alone to Hong Kong. In the Walled City, the inhabitants are either cornered or have a shady past. They commit prostitution, gambling, drugs and other lawless acts. They have their own order and law. The Walled City is akin to a "limbo" zone. One day, Cheung Tai-hoi (Andrew Lin), while escorting criminal Mickey Szeto (Gordon Lam), accidentally loses control of the police van and breaks into the Walled City and is detained by its inhabitants. Walled City's overlord Crow (Alexander Chan) hate the police and believes one of them is a cop and prepares to execute one of them. At this time, a brothel owner in Walled City, Ling, (Kristal Tin) falsely accuses Mickey to be the cop. Therefore, Hoi was released while Mickey was continued to be detained. It turns out that Mickey is Ling's long lost lover and she wants him to suffer since she believes he abandoned her and her daughter, Yan (Charmaine Fong), years ago. At the same time, she also wants Mickey to help her leave Walled City because Crow has been eyeing for Yan. Yan then sees the detained Mickey, while she does not know he is her father, she had a feeling which prompt her to decide to help him escape. At the same time, a fatal plague was discovered in Walled City and the government uses this as an excuse to start a massacre that would prevent the spreading of the plague.

In 1927, Roxie Hart sees star Velma Kelly perform ("All That Jazz") at a Chicago theater. Wanting stardom for herself, she begins an affair with Fred Casely, who claims to know the manager. After the show, Velma is arrested for killing her husband Charlie and sister Veronica, who were in bed together. A month later, Casely admits to Roxie that he has no showbiz connections and just wanted her body. Enraged, she shoots him dead. She convinces her husband Amos to take the blame, telling him she killed a burglar in self-defense. As Amos confesses to the detective, Roxie fantasizes that she is singing a song devoted to her husband ("Funny Honey"). However, when the detective brings up evidence that Roxie and Casely were having an affair, Amos recants; Roxie furiously admits what really happened and is arrested. Ambitious District Attorney Harrison announces he will seek the death penalty.
