Badis ( باديس) est un film marocain réalisé par Mohamed Abderrahman Tazi en 1988.

Synopsis

À l'ombre de la presqu'ile forteresse de Badis, enclave espagnole en territoire marocain. Un instituteur se fait muter volontairement de Casablanca pour mieux surveiller son épouse Touria. Il la séquestre à la maison, mais celle-ci se lie d'amitié avec Moira, une jeune fille du village mi-marocaine mi-espagnole. Les deux femmes se sentiront prisonnières et tenteront de fuir.

Le réalisateur se penche avec humour sur sa propre enfance, alors que petit garçon, fils d’un père bigame et petit-fils d’un grand-père polygame, il grandissait au sein d’un harem heureux. C’est là qu’avec les femmes,les enfants et les servantes, il a partagé les joies, les peines et les conflits de toute une communauté sous l’œil tantôt sévère, tantôt cajoleur du Maître. Devenu adulte le cinéaste se souvient avec nostalgie de ce temps de douceur. « Et comme je ne suis pas polygame, j’ai considéré que la meilleure façon pour moi de secouer les idées préconçues était de raconter une histoire légère où la pointe d’humour et le bon mot se substituent à l’analyse et où les personnages sont affectueusement croqués. C’est ma manière à moi de dénoncer en amusant.

Rafael is a kind, good-hearted butcher. He has a lonely life after accidentally castrating himself while cutting meat several years before, but he longs to have a family life, a dream that seems unattainable for him. One early morning when he is driving his truck to his butcher’s shop, he sees a young man assaulting a woman. Rafael cannot help but intervene and jumps out of his vehicle to help her. Taking pity on the girl, he takes her to his home. Her name is Marina and the man who was beating her was her boyfriend, Daniel. Marina, nicknamed One-Eye (for she lost one eye in a childhood accident), tells Rafael how she and Daniel grew up together in a hostile environment in an orphanage, where she was left abandoned by her father. Marina feels attach to Daniel, as they do not have anybody else. They have had a hard life on the streets, and now that she is pregnant by him, she is adamant not only to have the baby, that Daniel does not want, but she would like to offer the baby the family life, she never had.
