Dans un petit village côtier, les hommes ne sont pas rentrés de leur dernière expédition, les femmes décident donc de partir à leur recherche, elles sont rejointes par Ottar, le seul homme qui soit resté au village. Leur drakkar est attaqué par un monstre marin gardien du "Vortex". Le Vortex les précipite sur une rive inconnue, elles sont emmenés en esclavage par le peuple Grimault. Elles tentent de résister mais en vain. Le chef des Grimault, Stark convie les esclaves à un banquet où elles sont malmenées. Voulant tester la force des vikings, le fils de Stark, Senya joue une partie de bras de fer avec Desir, la leader des Vikings, Senya gagne la première manche, Desir la seconde mais les chef les empêche de jouer la belle. Stark propose aux femmes viking de venir avec eux à une partie de chasse.au cours de laquelle Senya est à deux doigts de se faire tuer par un sanglier, il est sauvé par Desir qui tue le sanglier, mais il considère ce sauvetage comme une humiliation et revendique pour lui-même la mort du sanglier. On fait visiter aux femmes vikings la grotte où les mâles sont détenus en esclavage. L'une des femmes tente de les faire évader, mais la prêtresse des vikings, la brune Enger, jalouse de Désir, prévient Stark et fait échouer l'évasion. Stark décrète la mise à mort de Désir et de son amant. Deux buchers sont allumés, et le premier qui demandera grâce aura la vie sauve, mais aucun des deux amoureux ne se décide à le faire. Enger regrette son geste et invoque Thor qui provoque un orage, qui éteint les bûchers tandis que la foudre électrocute Senya qui allait se servir de son épée. Les vikings fuit, mais sont sur le point d'être rattrapés par les Grimault, Enger prend un chemin détournée pour faire diversion et se jette de la falaise, les vikings fuient en barque poursuivi par les Grimault, Le monstre marin survient engloutissant les Grimault tandis qu'Ottar parvient à tuer le monstre d'un coup de lance.

On July 26, 1942 the American Marine invasion task force is sailing towards Guadalcanal. The Marines land on Guadalcanal with no initial opposition. They find an abandoned village and capture an airfield, which the Americans work to complete. Based on a tip from a Japanese deserter, the Marines leave by boat for the village of Matanikau, where there are supposedly a large number of Japanese troops who want to surrender. On the way one boat is destroyed by a Japanese sub before it is sunk by onshore Marine artillery. The Marines walk into a trap and they are all killed except for Private Soose Alvarez who makes it back to the American lines. The Marines then march on Matanikau in force and on the way, Private “Chicken’ Anderson is wounded by a Japanese soldier who only pretended to be dead. The Marines enjoy mail call, but suffer through Japanese air force bombing raids. Army troops land to support the Marines. They launch a campaign to root Japanese troops out of a series of caves. They try to listen to the results of the game two of the 1942 World Series, but static unfortunately prevents them from hearing the final score. The Marines are both shelled by the Japanese navy and bombed by their air force. A force of Marine fighter planes land on the island. All the marines write letters home. They launch an attack on the Japanese, during which Pvt. Alvarez is killed. The marines are relieved and evacuated from the island.

The film begins with a tough Greek Lieutenant (J. Carrol Naish) announcing that the United States Marine Corps is seeking volunteers for a hazardous mission and special unit. Sergeant "Transport" Anderof (Sam Levene) meets the commander of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Thorwald (Randolph Scott) who he has served with in the China Marines. Thorwald explains that he left the Corps to serve with the Chinese guerrillas fighting the Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War to learn their methods and has decided to form a unit using the qualities of Gung Ho or "work together".

The humane Captain Crawford (Guinness) is in command of the warship HMS Defiant during the French Revolutionary Wars. He soon finds himself in a battle of wills with his first officer, the sadistic and supercilious first lieutenant, Mr. Scott-Padget (Bogarde). The Lieutenant believes that Crawford is too soft on his crew, and also disagrees with the captain's decision to proceed with orders to sail to Corsica despite word that Napoleon has overrun much of Italy. Scott-Padget has powerful family connections, which he has used in the past to "beach" two previous commanding officers with whom he disagreed. Knowing that Crawford is helpless to intervene, Scott-Padget subjects the former's son, Midshipman Harvey Crawford (David Robinson), to excessive daily punishments so as to gain leverage over the captain.

Sgt. Tom Sloan sees his Lieutenant Joel Brady kill one of their own Marines, Johnny Campbell on Guadalcanal after Brady led a disastrous suicidal attack against Japanese entrenched in caves. Oro Plata Mata traces the changing fortunes of two aristocratic families in Negros during World War II. The Ojeda family is celebrating Maggie Ojedas (Andolong) debut. In the garden, Trining (Gil) receives her first kiss from Miguel Lorenzo (Torre), her childhood sweetheart. Don Claudio Ojeda (Ojeda) and his fellow landowners talk about the impending war. The celebration is cut short by news of the sinking of SS Corregidor by a mine. As the Japanese invasion force nears the city, the Ojedas accept the invitation extended by the Lorenzos, their old family friends, to stay with them in their provincial hacienda. Nena Ojeda (Lorena) and Inday Lorenzo (Asensio) try to deny the realities of war by preserving their pre-war lifestyle. Pining for her fiancé, Maggie goes through bouts of melancholy. Three friends who work on the Coney Island boardwalk, Skeets O'Reilly, Baltimore Clark, and Dutch Herman are all in love with the same woman, Sally. At the outbreak of World War I, the three men enlist in the US Navy. Before they leave for active duty, both Skeets and Baltimore meet with Sally, with the intention of letting her know how they feel about her. Baltimore can't bear the thought of Sally rejecting him, so he never discloses the depths of his feelings towards her. Skeets does propose to her, which she gently declines, being secretly in love with Baltimore.
