Synopsis
James Murphy (Brian Krause) is a rugged cryptozoologist, who thirty years earlier, during a trip to Loch Ness, Scotland, had a fatal encounter with the fabled "Nessie" creature that killed his father, research assistants, and left James with a deep facial scar. Thirty years later, James is hunting for Nessie, when his search leads him to the sleepy town of Pike Island, Ashburn, on Lake Superior. He encounters Josh Riley (Niall Matter), owner of a bait shop. Josh's ex-girlfriend, Zoe, is going camping along with Brody and two others on a small deserted island on the lake.Actors

A fisherman named Will is fishing with his crew in a large thunderstorm. Monkey Shines tells the story of an athlete, Allan Mann (Jason Beghe), who is rendered quadriplegic when struck by a truck. Mann fails to adjust to his condition, becoming suicidal and despondent. When Geoffrey, a scientist friend of his (John Pankow), who has been experimenting with the injection of human brain tissue into monkeys, learns this, he is prompted to supply one of the experimental monkeys, named "Ella" (played by Boo, whose vocal effects are provided by Frank Welker), to Allan as a helper.

Charles Brady and his mother Mary are Sleepwalkers—nomadic, shapeshifting energy vampires who feed off the lifeforce of virgin women. Though they normally maintain a human form, they can transform (partially or fully) into human-sized bipedal werecats (presumably their natural form) at will. They are considerably more resilient than humans and have powers of both telekinesis and illusion. Their one weakness is cats, who are not only able to see through their illusions but whose claws are capable of inflicting severe to fatal wounds upon them. It is revealed that they also maintain an incestuous relationship.

The small Alaskan town of Beaver Mills is located just north of the Arctic Circle, meaning that the sun does not set during the summer solstice. As the town prepares for its annual celebration of this event, a wyvern is awakened by the melting of the ice caps, and attacks a fisherman. Jake (Nick Chinlund), a handyman fixing the cafe where Claire (Erin Karpluk), hurts his hand and David (David Lewis), the town's doctor, examines it. While driving back to town, David is attacked by the wyvern. The next morning, Sheriff Dawson (John Shaw) and Jake hear gunshots and find Haas (Barry Corbin), a redneck attacked by the wyvern. Colonel (Don S. Davis), who has seen the Wyvern, goes to town to warn the citizens; but they disbelieve him, and he goes to kill it. Dawson radios to his Deputy Susie (Elaine Miles) to watch the town, but fails to convey his meaning. Dawson finds his friend dead, and returns. At the town, the wyvern kills Susie and several other people. Jake, Claire, Haas, and the eccentric Edin (Karen Austin) take shelter in the cafe. Later, Hampton (Tinsel Korey), who runs the town's radio, and Farley (Simon Longmore), another citizen, hide in the cafe. Sheriff Dawson is killed by the wyvern. Jake and Claire track the wyvern into the woods, where they find the Colonel, and discover the wyvern is killing anyone on the Interstate. Farley is injured trying to get supplies. The wyvern then uses David, still alive, as bait to draw people from the cafe. Jake goes to rescue him, and Farley distracts the wyvern to save them, but is eaten. David tells the group the Wyvern has eggs, and dies of his injuries. The survivors decide to electrify the nest, but the wyvern kills Haas. Jake takes a truck left on the side of the road and, using the eggs as bait, kills the wyvern. Jake, Claire, Colonel, Hampton, and Edin try again to radio for help.

Far north of the Arctic Circle, a nuclear bomb test, dubbed "Operation Experiment", is conducted. Prophetically, right after the blast, physicist Thomas Nesbitt (Paul Christian) muses, "What the cumulative effects of all these atomic explosions and tests will be, only time will tell." No sooner said, the explosion awakens a 30-foot (10 m) tall, 100-foot (30 m) long carnivorous animal known as Rhedosaurus, thawing it out of the ice where it had been held in suspended animation. Nesbitt is the only witness to the beast's awakening and is later dismissed out-of-hand as being delirious at the time of his "sighting". Despite the skepticism he persists, knowing what he saw.

The film starts with Richland (Feore), who was sent to visit a government facility on a remote island. He follows Peniston (Esposito) into the facility. The head scientist Dr.Bishop (Reineke) shows them the projects he is working on, including a shark and dolphin hybrid with the ability to adapt to any environment, as well as a human and shark hybrid (the creature). It breaks free from its tank and kills Dr. Bishop. Richland orders Peniston to kill it, but Peniston instead traps the Creature in a containment unit and dumps it in the sea.
