Edward Irving Ludwig (7 October 1899 – 20 August 1982) was a Russian-born American film director and writer. He directed nearly 100 films between 1921 and 1963 (some under the names Edward Luddy and Charles Fuhr).
Ludwig was also one of the directors of John Payne's NBC western series series The Restless Gun (1957-1959).
He was born in Russia, entered the US from Canada, March 6, 1911, became a naturalized citizen December 23, 1932, and died in Santa Monica, California.

Émigré aux États-Unis, il y réalise des films de 1920 à 1963 (tous ceux de sa période du muet, ainsi que ses premiers parlants jusqu'en 1932, sous le nom d'Edward I. Luddy, qu'il utilise également comme scénariste, de 1921 à 1932). Il n'écrira plus ensuite de scénario, sauf une fois en 1952.Pour la télévision, il réalise des épisodes de quelques séries et un téléfilm, entre 1958 et 1966, année où il met un terme à sa carrière.
En 1932, il est naturalisé américain sous le nom d'Edward Irving Ludwig.

The film begins when an earthquake hits Mexico, resulting in the overnight birth of a new volcano. Sent to study this phenomenon are geologists Dr. Hank Scott and Dr. Arturo Ramos. Rosalind Dee (DeCarlo) is a cafe singer striving to enter high society. Rosalind stumbles upon a large amount of money by lucky means. Rio Galdez vit dans un village perdu au fin fond de l'Amazonie. Il y exerce le cabotage et son vieux rafiot lui sert à la fois pour un peu de contrebande et la traversée des passagers qui le louent. Le village accueille d'autres déclassés, notamment Jerry Russell, autrefois ingénieur, mais qui a sombré dans l'alcoolisme et n'a plus qu'une obsession: retrouver un trésor fabuleux qui, d'après d'anciens parchemins, se trouverait dans la Vallée des Vents, sur le territoire des indiens Jivaros. Wedge Donovan (John Wayne) is a tough construction boss, building airstrips in the Pacific for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He clashes with his liaison officer, Lieutenant Commander Robert Yarrow (Dennis O'Keefe), over the fact that his men are not allowed to arm themselves against the Japanese. When the enemy lands in force on the island, he finally takes matters into his own hands, leading his men into the fray. This prevents Yarrow from springing a carefully devised trap that would have wiped out the invaders in a murderous machinegun crossfire, with minimal American losses. Instead, many of Donovan's men are killed unnecessarily.

Captain Jeff Dakin (George Montgomery) is shot down over Germany on a bombing raid as he sees his brother, Danny (Richard Graham) serving on the same aircraft, shot dead as he parachutes out of the stricken aircraft. Imprisoned in a camp, Dakin conspires with Alexandra "Alec" Zorich (Annabella), a beautiful Russian doctor, and Captain Paul Husnik (Kent Taylor), a Czech resistance leader, to mount an escape.
